Are they? Sounds like Hynix to me.
They are confirmed B die chips. I used a website that had all the chips listed as exactly what they were and went off that. It's possible the list was wrong, but it was VERY thorough. I will look it up in a minute and post it if you would like.

I am unaware of a CL16 binning for G.Skill Trident Z at 3200 MT/s that uses B-die chips. The most common chips with those timings are Hynix or Samsung E-Die.

You should post the link so we can validate it.

I was using this link to confirm https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/62vp2g/clearing_up_any_samsung_bdie_confusion_eg_on/

Copying and pasting it says the following

G.Skill Trident Z 3200 MHz CL16 F4-3200C16D-32GTZA 8Gb Samsung B-Die Dual Double Jedec Info

That is for the 32gb kit...I was rushing and overlooked that. So apparently I have....Lets take a look.

I have the following.
G.Skill Trident Z 3200 MHz CL16* F4-3200C16D-16GTZR 8Gb Hynix A-Die Single Single Jedec Info

The astrix means "Entries marked with * indicate that you may get Samsung or Hynix IC, both variants exist with the same model number."

I will do some ram testing shortly. I just got the system built and it's absolutely gorgeous. I really didn't think I was going to like the RGB lighting on the strix board, but man...looking at it in person it really is gorgeous. Currently absolutely thrilled with the RGBness of this build haha.

Is there a way I can find out from the model number, or like cpu-z which ram it is? Or should I just try overclocking it / lowering the CL to see how it does? I really wish the wife and I weren't in such a rush when we were picking out ram, I now feel like I made a terrible purchase, even though it looks pretty. Who knows, maybe even if its "bad" ram, I will still get a decent ish overclock on it.

I'm getting ready to do my overclocking on the 8700k currently. Wish me luck guys. If you would like pictures, just let me know. Happy to take them for you

Edit: I do have a question, I am a little old school and generally used linX burn test to test my processors stability. I sometimes used prime95 back in the day as well. What are the best stress testing programs for stability that I don't need to run for 24 hours straight to know if I am stable. Let me know if you would please, thanks!

Just loaded up 4.8ghz on coffee lake currently, on all cores. Using 95 for stress testing, temps are under 80c on all cores. I do notice that there is a big fluctuation between the cores, core #3 being 63c and core #2 at 79c. This is the largest variance I have though and it looks like it's starting to stabilize a little bit. Gonna let this run for a bit and then try 4.9 and 5.0ghz. I will be extremely happy if I can get 5ghz stable, been chasing that for awhile on my 4790k and it took me way to long to get there lol.

Which version of Prime95 are you running? If you're indeed running 4.8GHz with the avx version, then you have a great build there, my friend. Are you aware of the AVX offset? It may come in handy for higher 5GHz+ overclocks.

It's a fresh install of windows, so I believe the newest version. Let me double check though. V29.3 Build 1 is what it says under the about section. Does that sound right? I am aware of the AVX offset. I'm starting to hate prime95 though as its really starting to heat up my cpu. Why does p95 get SO much hotter than LinX or the asus intel extreme tuning utility? I've been trying to dial in anywhere from 4.8 to 5.0 but temps are getting up there pretty quick. I'm still tinkering but we will see. Worst case scenario I have my 2nd chip coming in tomorrow aka tuesday.

Edit: Quick question, what is the max safe voltage and temps for coffee lake during stress testing. I haven't read through everything in this thread yet, so I apologize for the noobie questions, it's just been awhile since I've upgraded systems and this was really a last second unexpected thing lol.

I use an i5-3450 for pfsense on a gbit connection and it’s way more than 20x what is needed so yeah, that’s overkill.
DD-WRT x86 in a VM on a dual X5670 (12c/24t) HP Z600. Now THAT'S overkill

Back on topic, no luck getting a 8700K anywhere just yet.
Couple of colleagues in adjacent cubes want them too.

You could always shoot me a reasonable offer on one of my chips I have it up for sale in the FS section, just lowered the price too, also accepting reasonable offers too

So? What's the offset now?

I'm still playing around with everything. I was having trouble getting it stable. Currently I am at 4.7ghz on all cores with 0 offset and it's completely stable through IBT/Linux/ whatever asus intel extreme engine uses. Also did p95 for like 15 mins (i know thats not long enough but I ran 20mins of Linx which is decent). I'm going to keep playing around with it and see what I can figure out. I'm just not used to all of these new settings lol. I don't want to use an offset, but I can't get stable without it.

My advice, set a -400MHz offset. You'll be tasking your fine chip too much trying to run P95-AVX at 4.8GHZ. I bet you'll be stable in everything else at 5GHZ if you set AVX-offset to -400 (4.6GHz).

Right now I am testing 49x on all cores with a 2x offset and it seems to be going much better now than previously. I think it was the higher LLC that helped, but I could be mistaken. Temps are still to high, all cores are around 85C give or take but I believe its stable. Might check the application of thermal paste, or upgrade AIO's lol. 50x with -2 failed for me at the same voltage. Trying -400 now with a touch more voltage at 5ghz to see if I can get it stable. Pretty sure I can, but temps might be higher as it feels like it needs a little more voltage going from 49 to 50.

Mine does AVX at 5GHZ with no offset but temps reach the 70s and it reports a power usage of 175W

If you're using the 4x offset, you may actually need to give it less vcore voltage, not more. Just tweak the secondary voltages for the higher frequency.

Interesting, I didn't know that, ok. What voltage are you running for your 5ghz no offset? Also what do you mean by secondary voltages? Isn't there only one voltage aka vcore? Or is there something entirely different I didn't learn, please let me know lol.

I just made it through 5.0ghz with a -400mhz offset. 10 passes stable of LinX version 0.6.5 (if there is a newer version please let me know!!) Going to try to lower the offset and or voltage and see if I can repeat this. May up the frequency 1 more time as well and see what happens. Man I missed overclocking!

You mean Ferzerp. YMMV though, his chip is delidded. Looking good for you so far. Try running Cinebench 15 at 5GHz to make sure your non AVX apps are stable at your current vcore.

Edit: Better yet, get P95 version 26.6 for your non-avx stress testing.

I will grab both of those. Currently testing 5.0ghz -300mhz and so far so good. Same voltage I was at prior as well, so were doing ok so far. And that just finished as I was typing. Gonna drop it down to -2 while I am downloading cinebench 15 and p95 26.6, thanks for the help man, I really appreciate it!

Downloaded that software and it said they are hynix chips. I guess I bought the worst ram possible, what a waste of money lol. Maybe I can get lucky with a decent overclock though. Stupid me and stupid wife for rushing lol.

Why is a 3200Mhz CL16 ram a worst ram possible?

Guys aren't we getting a little carried away here?
