Yeah, it sounds bad*ss to me. I hope ASRock offers something similar because they have been my go-to lately.

Honestly, ASRock has done really good by me for the past couple years while I've had some problem mobos from Asus, Gigabyte and MSI. I know it's completely anecdotal but of the two dozen or so setups I've built over the past three years surprisingly ASRock has been the most reliable and Asus the least reliable (which in years past was the complete opposite).

I prefer Asus, and I've spent years on an Asrock board. Both are very good, however the Asus BIOS is just better.

I would agree with that. For a while, though, there was a time when ASRock was just crushing it in the price/performance department. They can still be relied on to have Intel LAN even on low-midrange offerings, though it seems other manufacturers are catching up to this trend.

I bought some higher end 3000 gskill memory about 6 months ago in anticipation of this build. Is that adequate enough for an 8700k or should I dump it and buy some faster memory. I didn’t think it would make a big difference but I was out of the loop back then. Maybe it does matter? What do you guys think?

This is what I have. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820236077

Wow when I bought them it was like $125 I think.

It's diminishing returns the higher you go, so it's a matter of value versus maximizing performance. Most memory tests I've seen only net a few percentage points in benefit with each jump past 3000MHz, except for more niche applications.

I'd be happy with DDR4-3000. It's one of those situations where you probably already know you need faster RAM if you actually need faster RAM. 4000+ won't result in a huge FPS jump in gaming, but for those breaking the piggy bank anyway it would be worth considering.

Looking to upgrade to an 8700k. Is there such a thing as a super fast OS drive? I know the 960EVO / PRO is king but I've read that the 256 is gimped in comparison to the other sizes. I just want like a small super fast drive for boot. Right now my OS drive WITH games is only 96gigs so buying a 500g one seems like a waste.

A 240GB MyDigitalSSD BPX is only $120 on NewEgg.

Most smaller drives are slower than their larger counterparts, but I doubt you will notice it in the real world.

I think 3200 is the best spot between cost and performance but let's see what the reviews say. (hopefully they test it)

I'd like that, however usually they just see the highest they can get running :/

Linus did a comparison earlier this year (April) and found that 3200 was the best and everything beyond netted only occasionally a few single digit frames in games and software benchmarks, but were mostly identical.

Maybe I should aim lower myself as well, around 3333-3600 which would give me more options.

https://www.megekko.nl/product/2046...GB-DDR4-3333-16GB-DDR4-3333MHz-geheugenmodule better design + black inset (looks good)

https://www.megekko.nl/product/2046/762795/DDR4/G-Skill-16GB-DDR4-3600 better speed (ugly spreader)

https://www.megekko.nl/product/2046...GB-DDR4-3466-16GB-DDR4-3466MHz-geheugenmodule better design + white inset (not sure if it looks good)

I have now spent two afternoons online searching memory and am shocked by how little is actually in stock. HyperX Predator would also go great with the upcoming Asus boards, however all is out of stock and 4000 has never been even in the country since its release. This is the first time I'm having trouble finding RAM. So I'll have to pick one of these three (above), from which I like the Trident Z design 10x better than the Ripjaws V spreader (looks cheap and simple), despite the latter having the higher frequency.

Really wish the ASRock Taichi had more USB ports. The Asus Hero is looking like the front runner for me, although I wish it had the memory support the Taichi had.

Hey
I'm getting back to the intel family (2500k was my last cpu and have been running with a 8350 for a few years now)

The build i'm planning is
Corsair F750
Corsair RMX750
I7 8700k
Gigabyte motherboard (when prices are available I'll decide)
212+ (depending on heat I'll switch to h100iv2)
EVO 960 M.2 500gb
2x Ripjaw V series (8gb c15 1.35v)
GTX1070

When will preorders go live? Do these releases normally have preorders? I mean it comes out in a few days? Is it normally this quiet three days out?

I'm considering picking up an 8700K and the ASUS Apex board. Hopefully some of the memory makers will put out some crazy fast memory modules alongside CFL, too.

G.Skill will be the one for you, imo they are the best of the best and always come with record breaking speeds. Why the Apex, if I may ask?

Depends on the country. Mine never has pre-orders.

It should be actual availability, not pre-order. But I think the quantities will be low initially.

RAM prices these days reminds me of RDRAM days with the P4.

Tell me about it! Ended up paying 192 Euro for my set (3333MHz vs. 325 Euro for 4400MHz, for example) and if faster does prove better in the future, I can always purchase, when prices have come down again, a different set as it's hardly permanent. Now all I need is to have the CPUs and baords in stock by the time I get home (and not a Skylake repeat where the few they had were sold out in no time).

Because of @Arachnotronic I'm having a peek at the Apex also and am wondering what, if any, the advantages would be over the hero or code* when not being an enthusiast overclocker / benchmark guy?

*given yesterday's slide, there's 0% chance of the code releasing the 5th right?
