When will preorders go live? Do these releases normally have preorders? I mean it comes out in a few days? Is it normally this quiet three days out?

Was speaking to someone in the business and apparently the stock levels are low at the moment so may be hard to get hold of one on the 5th/6th. I think this is all slightly rushed to get a competitor against Ryzen before the holiday season.

This would seriously piss me off (low inventory) as it also ramps up the price. I have a few days off to build and play with the system but if I cannot get a hold of the CPU... It may be weeks before stock comes in again (just like SKL at the time). And at the end of the day, most stock goes to countries like the UK, US, China, Germany etc. and not small European countries like mine. Very frustrating!

Can you not order from Amazon UK or Amazon Germany? I thought the EU was a common market anyway.

It gets very complicated then with lots of added costs I'm afraid. We do have plenty of national webshops so I might just order things from different sites.

You want to reach out to the stores and enquire. It'll help you with your strategy so you don't left out on launch day. Some of them may even take a pre-order, off the record. This may boil down to a directive from Intel, but if not, you'll know from the feedback you get.

Good idea! I certainly will!

Still debating on whether to use the ram I have right now or if I should up it to say ddr4000 or 3600. This is the ram i have in my system now
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820232391

I ordered a soundcard.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072Q11ZTC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Hoping to find a Asus Maximus X Hero(prefer the non wifi but if all I can find is the Wifi will get that)
i7 8700k

Does anyone know what time Newegg and Amazon usually start selling new released products? I'm in the US eastern time so trying to figure out if i need to wake up at midnight or like 3 am on the 5th.
Anyone talk to anybody at Microcenter? Whats their status as far as release dates?

Looking to upgrade to an 8700k. Is there such a thing as a super fast OS drive? I know the 960EVO / PRO is king but I've read that the 256 is gimped in comparison to the other sizes. I just want like a small super fast drive for boot. Right now my OS drive WITH games is only 96gigs so buying a 500g one seems like a waste.

EVO: 250 is slower in writes vs the 500 by 300 MB/s (1500 vs 1800). All of them have the same reads. 250 and 500 have the same IOPS.

You will only notice the difference if you are constantly doing disk intensive things...in which case you wouldn't be asking this question.

I have the 250 EVO in my new XPS...aside from a few things, I don't miss it on my main PC (4790K, 850 EVO SATA 250).

A asked this in the other thread but got no answer. Does multi core enhancement, which locks all cores to the highest turbo, work on non-K CPUs?

What about turbo ratios? Can they be increased?

I bought some higher end 3000 gskill memory about 6 months ago in anticipation of this build. Is that adequate enough for an 8700k or should I dump it and buy some faster memory. I didn’t think it would make a big difference but I was out of the loop back then. Maybe it does matter? What do you guys think?

This is what I have. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820236077

Wow when I bought them it was like $125 I think.
Cfl probably hides latency a good deal better than skl x or ryzen meaning enough fps even in those old dx9 like games that stresses latency to the max. Even for 120fps.
In the future as shown by many current high end games the new api and game models will hide that latency issue and you will become cpu throughput limited down the lane 3-4 years or memory bandwith limited for those two channels. We can already see that limitation today in bf1 but its about dual 1866 for consistent 60fps so pretty low.
But a 8700k really pushes a lot of raw mt cpu throughput so i would pair it with a ram bandwith to match. Like dual 3600. Will become handy in a few years.
In your case i would just wait to upgrade the ram until needed. Bios will have matured then and ram prices settled for the faster stuff.

My 1231-V3 can be locked at 3.8ghz, and a 4790-S can be locked at 4.0ghz with Z boards. But those are Haswell chips of course.
This seems to work with Z boards and any intel Haswell chip with turbo multipliers.
I would guess that with a Z board, you can also lock Skylake/Kaby Lake/Coffee Lake chips at their highest multiplier, but I have no examples.

Is there going to be a 4c/8t "K" variant and if so will it be faster then the 7700k in clock speed and IPC??
Wonder what the price point is looking like as well?? Dont need any thing more then 4c/8t right now but want something with an upgrade path for the future,so I am starting to consider this build..

Almost certainly not. Why not get an i5-8600K then? Its 6c/6t setup will be much better than 4c/8t and is well priced.

EDIT: Unless the 8 core CFL rumors are true, which would mean 8c/16t i7s, and most probably 6c/12t i5s and 4c/8t i3s. They won't be out before H2 2018 though.

I think some proper different memory speed tests with CFL will be very welcome in a review, since it's the most asked question currently.

I myself will stick with the 3333MHz set I've ordered, until I need more and availability rises and prices drop.

From what i've experienced in the past.

Of the "core" components of a rig, ram is the one that you can spend the most without seeing really noticeable changes.
You can buy a cheap $150 dd4 3000mhz c16 16gb and maybe you can see a 2% improvement on gaming.

Unless you are getting an i7 8700k, a 1080ti and an M.2, instead of spending extra on ddr4, get better cpu gpu or ssd.

That would really be something - i7 quality chips to i3's in a period of around 1 year?

All thanks to Ryzen... *chuckle*.

Well, we can think that, at least. I don't think Intel would have been as aggressive coming out with a mainstream 8-core (still only rumor, I believe), if Ryzen didn't make such a splash with a mainstream 8-core with SMT that actually very competitive, IPC-wise. Even if they did have the 6-core CFL on the roadmaps for a couple of years.

Intel have had planned 4/6/8 core CPUs for mainstream but with Cannon Lake and the architectures that were supposed to come after CNL.

The fact that we have right now 1151v2 socket, for Coffee Lake is actually proof that Intel had not planned in 2013 6 and 8 core CPUs for this platform.

Got an order update on the memory: won't be delivered tomorrow but Thursday... Supposed to be in stock... And this is when I become skeptical... Normally takes me 5 minutes to find memory but this...is absurd...
