Wasn't expecting my 8700k to ship for another couple of weeks, and spent the rest of my budget on a monitor and recreational drugs. All I can do is look at the box for the next 10 days. Paid ca $425. Digitec.ch. They probably ship to eu as well.

You make that sound like it's a bad thing. I've built a shrine to my empty 8700k box. Visitors need to leave offerings to it when they enter the house.

Wow, all these peeps getting 8700Ks... I dunno, my excitement already peaked over Coffee Lake, though some of that could be that I again, bought the bottom-of-the-stack,the i3-8100. Which IS a solid 4C/4T chip, but next to my Ryzen 5 1600 6C/12T, it's just not all that. It's pretty-much a locked competitor to the Ryzen 3 1200 CPU when OCed.

But it was in-stock.

It is between the 8700k and the 7820/7900 for me. I think the 8700k will probably suit my needs better to be honest. If I can get it soon, great; if not, I have a week off in December to leisurely build my new system.

Waiting to snag a delidded 8700K when SL gets it back in stock. Will probably pair with an ASRock board (they seem to be most responsive on the UEFI updates, and were first with a fix for vdroop/LLC).

If you guys remember a couple years back, this is similar to what happened with the 6700K. For months, you could only find it at huge premiums, if at all. I hope Intel turns this around quickly before I change my mind again and decide to wait for the rumored 8C CFL or Ice Lake.

It will get better as I'm sure that Intel is working very hard to get those CPUs out of the factory because they're selling like hotcakes. It's lack of time to have built up inventory because the earlier launch that's the issue here. I don't remember what the issue was two years ago though.

Most likely the same, launching with no stock to back it up. (Which clearly, at day of announcing launch the didn't)

The reasons for no stock can be many, but the reason to LAUNCH without stock is one made 100% by Intel.

Maybe Intel also thought that not many 4C/8T Intel chip owners would want to upgrade to the Coffee Lake 6C chips right away.
That was a popular idea around the boards.

That's why they should put me in charge of thinking but seriously, we lot are still a niche group - it just so happens that we are a rather large group

I had a feeling you were going to be disappointed with the i3-8100. Worst performing chip in the lineup...not really a great representation of Coffee Lake. It would be like me buying a Ryzen 3 to get a taste of Ryzen. I know you felt like it would fit your needs...but still...

Respectable, respectable...
Meanwhile, I'm building a wall to keep out the console heathens. Unfortunately I've sold too many CPUs with the boxes, so I'll have to buy more in the future to keep the hordes at bay. That's a logical reason to buy more CPUs, right?

I don't know if it was posted earlier, but here's a good TechPowerUp article comparing effect of memory frequency and latency on Coffee Lake:

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews...e_Lake_Memory_Performance_Benchmark_Analysis/

It's extremely disappointing that they didn't use an overclocked 1080ti for their test and also that they only tested at 1080p. I would have much rather they do 720p and 1440p or 1080p and 1440p. Good effort but I think they could have made better choices that would have shown some gains with certain memory choices in gaming. It's pretty obvious that the 1080 was the bottleneck, even at 1080p.
