I seriously hope my local Micro Center has the MSI X79 GD80 and the 3960X available next week.

I wonder how many people will buy that board *just* for the bullet-heatsink.

^That was my thought as well. But man, pure black PCB with some 'brass' accents is awesome looking.

Two 8-lead power connectors for one CPU and a 6-pin PCI-E connector for the cards? Really?! This shit is seriously getting out of hand.

exactly what I was thinking. those just looking for a gaming pc would be much better served with 1155 and a 2500k.

and I thought prices in Australia were higher but those cpu prices look the same as here for the most part.

Let's just hope that all the extra power connectors are for extreme overclocking.

This actually doesnt bother me, the more stable the voltage the better when overclocking. I had a old AM2+ foxconn board with a 4 pin Molex connector on it to help smooth out the power to the PCIe slot and it allowed for a 75Mhz better overclock on my GPU(4890 at the time) than my intel X58 board i got later.

Exactly. I would never buy this board, simply because of that idiotic heatsink. Plastic bullets? What am I 9 years old?

And on another note... I'm a hardware enthusiast with 3 grand burning a hole in my pocket and I'm still not gonna spend $1,000 on a stinkin MB/CPU combo. I mean, yes, I could build my Ford Taurus with a titanium frame and carbon fiber body and it might have better mileage and acceleration, but I'm not really considering it. LOL.

Most of those. Those with a limitless budget are a whole different caste... one could benefit from such an overkill board and CPU if the display setup is equally overkill i.e. quad-SLI and 7680x1600. Imagine playing Skyrim on that... sorry, being in Skyrim ;P

Well considering I paid $1000 for a Core 2 Extreme Edition X6800 just a few years ago when they were the fastest thing available, I'm one of those idiots that will probably buy one of these (though definitely NOT the tacky looking bullet heat sink).

$200 2500K prices have spoiled a lot of you, plus some of you are so young you take it all for granted not realizing how good you have it nowadays. The amount of juice in that 6-core....well lets just say I paid a LOT MORE cash for a multi-processor Sun workstation back around y2k before Athlon64 x2 blew the top off things. This is pocket change for stuff that would make Seymour Cray drool !

Enthusiasts, coming through.

Memory performance will be through the roof with that thing. Sadly someone will break my linpack score. With some overclocking GPU-like bandwidth (50GB/s+) maybe?

The only SB-E worth buying is the E5 2687W or 2690. Too bad it'll be over 2 grand.

That motherboard is sweet looking. Okay the bullets are a bit stupid, but the all black is excellent. Not planning to grab SB-E, but the platform looks excellent.

They didn't even do a good job on the bullets. Musta been designed by anti-gun activists.

+1 How worrying that mobo makers feel the need to create such a puerile heatsink.

Wow, no kidding I didn't think these would be out this fast. I thought late december.

How much are these processors,, How much is the higher version, and how much is the lower version. Dropping 16GB quad channel is a given only 97 dollars www.newegg.com Soo 6 cores, 12 threads wow, I like the sound of that. Still wait people 8 core and 12 core will arrive before you know it. gl

"Redneck" finally comes to motherboards...all thanks to side-window cases.

Purty soon we'll have 4x4 Monster Truck and NASCAR themes, with Porta-potties on the Southbridge...

If i had the cash i would buy a cheaper x79 motherboard that isn't made by msi nor looks stupid and the i7 3930k .

Would sit on it till that chip looked like the q6600 of 6 cores which will prob be like 5 whole years but it would be a worthwhile purchase simply for that to me.

Unless the next generation quad cores have huge ipc improvements i think the next upgrade for most will be 6 core .
