I don't know why but I just find it hilarious when Newegg tries to get you all excited over free shipping on your $1.1k item in the shopping cart.

I suppose that $5 shipping charge would otherwise be a deal-breaker for some would-be buyers of a CPU going for $1,069.99.

Well, I just got back from MicroCenter in Tustin, and even after tax, I paid $32 less than I would've on Newegg. They had 10 Core i7 965 Extreme's and 25 Core i7 920's in stock (well, 9 and 24 now ). However, they only had 3GB and 6GB Patriot 1600MHz memory kits, so I grabbed them for now just to get my rig up and running for launch... They were also supposed to have the 6GB Corsair kits, but after the employees searched their stock for over 20 minutes they simply couldn't find any in their inventory.

I'm still waiting on the Dominator 1866MHz kit though.

Looks like someone at Intel screwed up when they misplaced this sticker. Meh, it's not the end of the world, I'll just peel it up with a blow dryer.

just FYI, you can get all the parts you need for an i7 system from trusted etailers on ebay, using the ebay checkout system, and use the 25% cash back to buy all your hardware. CPUs are going for as low as $290 for a 920 before cash back

Man I wish I had a Microcenter or Fry's where I live....it's almost hard to imagine walking into a big store and walking about with a Core i7 + X58. Around here CC + Best Buy are all the options, and all they stock is overpriced, outdated RAM kits.

lol yea where i live it's hard to keep up with what every store is selling all the current hardware for. there are so many retailers (central computers, frys, microcenter, worst buy, ect) that you can usually get them all to price match each other pretty easy. just call them all up until you find the lowest price, then go in to the nearest one to you (in my case frys on park street in palo alto) and tell them to price match said store. they will call the store up, ask what their price is, and if it is lower than the in store price you get a discount. whats even better though is if you know someone who works for frys, since they get employee discounts on stuff. just give them cash and they will buy it for you

Cash back is broken right now for most people unfortunately. I wanted to pick up a 965 but it seems like the 940s may clock just as well on air or water. Phase is a different story for obvious reasons but I can't afford to run that 24/7.

thats 12gb. the ram comes in triple channel kits now, since high end i7 is all triple channel DDR3. thats $500-600 easily. though i guess if you were buying it for a 6 dimm system you could just buy 3 4gb kits instead, if they have the speed you want with the right voltage (1.65max)
