A nitrogen leak at an Intel plant in Chandler, Arizona, sent 11 employees to the hospital on Saturday.
Chandler fire department spokesman Tom Dwiggins told The Huffington Post they received a call around 5:50 a.m. Saturday morning for a patient with difficulty breathing. When the fire department arrived on the scene, they found additional patients experiencing nausea, difficulty breathing, and skin and eye irritations.
"We determined that there was some type of hazardous leak which turned out to be nitrogen," he said. The leak was secured by Intel staff, according to Dwiggins.
In total, 43 patients were treated after experiencing symptoms. Eleven were transported to local hospitals.

It seems Intel 14nm fabrication plants are not as save as we want to believe. D:

That's would be my speculation. Nitrogen at normal atmospheric pressure /temperature might be harmless but if the local atmosphere is 100% nitrogen there's no oxygen. Sort of like what happened at that volcanic lake in Cameroon:

LOL, no.

If there was even the slightly increase in relative cancer/miscarriage/mutation/etc rates in terms of occupational hazards of working inside a fab versus any other industrial facility then the class-action lawyers would be having a feeding frenzy on the carcasses of every fab owner that is out there.

I've personally known many people who were pregnant and who worked inside a fab, including my wife when she was pregnant with both of our children (all happy and healthy to this day), and I haven't seen anything like what your post conveys.

Nitrogen can be very very deadly. It can act as an asphyxiant and choke a person to death in less than 40 seconds!

The problem is that the (incorrectly believed to be safe) Nitrogen gas, mixes with air, making it temporarily, have significantly less Oxygen in it.

If there is a lot of Nitrogen gas, leaking into the area, it can make the Oxygen levels (as a percentage of the gas mixture), so low, that you can't breath, at which point it is VERY DANGEROUS, and results in rapid death, unless you very rapidly leave the area, or something.

(SAFETY WARNING, PLEASE DON'T TRY THE FOLLOWING) If you don't believe me, try holding your breath for ten minutes, during this time, in your lungs, there is Nitrogen, an increasing amount of CO2, but the Oxygen % level is rapidly decreasing.

(My understanding is that in your lungs, it's the build up of CO2, rather than a drop in oxygen %, which becomes a problem first, so it is NOT a very good example).
