Intel cuts mobile processor prices

Two 1.60 GHz Centrino products, which contain microprocessors, chipsets, wireless (news - web sites) technology and software, saw the biggest price cuts among their product family, each down 30 percent from May 25.

The chipmaker cut prices for three mobile Pentium M microprocessors used in notebook computers, with the price of a 1.60 GHz microprocessor down 34 percent from May 25.

All of the manufacturers (IBM, Dell, HPQ, etc) have already factored drops like this into their pricing - especially for a new product like Pent M. Actually, if you wanted Dell, you're too late - they have taken prices UP on their M boxes - by over $100 since announce. Keep in mind that Dell is out there to just buy share - as soon as you buy their box, that's all they care about. Notice the tech support has gone to India (no offense to Indian people) - Dell is upping everyone's warranty in the box and adding junk like overpriced surge (just buy one at OMax/Staples/OD on sale), charging businesses $99 per PC for tech support - just remember "Caveat Emptor" - buyer beware.

I used to like Dell/PC's Limited, but my thought now is "Dell, increasing the total cost of using a PC since 1984"

So, there is no way to get a P M with 256MB RAM, 64MB ATI Mob radeon 9000 and a 30 GB Harddrive plus a DVD ROM for 1000 dollars?

Actually all of the Athlon Chips have been dropping in the last week.

Checkout pricewatch.

Just waiting for the next batch of Bartons and a nice price drop.

Hate to tell you that Centrino is not a chip. Centrino is 3 components, the Intel 855 chipset, the Pentium M processor and the Intel 802.11b wireless adapter. It has to have those 3 to be called Centrino. Otherwise it's a Pentium M machine which is not the same as Pentium 4M either.
