The price drop for the 160GB doesn't seem like much. Just hope the 320GB doesn't turn out to be $800..

They just now lowered the price of their 80GB SSDs to $199? I've been seeing that price at retailers for a while now. Good thing I jumped on the $100 G2 Intel 80GB SSD I found on craigslist when it was up. It had 2TB already written to it according to SSD Life, but it's all good.

the 80GB SSD originally was MSRP of 225$
it shot up in prices due to lack of product to over 300$ within 24 hours and stayed there for a long, long time, eventually dropping back down to 220$ with a few showing a little under MSRP.
they now lowered MSRP to 200$, so expect to see those companies selling it at 200$ today to drop it a bit, maybe to 175$.
The 160GB went from MSRP 440$ to 415$.

not a huge drop... the 120GB is the interesting part, at 250$ its quite the GB/$ ratio.

Not good enough. Who even shutdowns their computer anymore ? What kind of computer nerd would run more than 2 to 5 startup items as well ? I bet some here don't even run any. There no point of having a billion stuff to start when your computer boots up.

My run on startup items:
skype, pidgin, google talk, utorrent, Uninterrupted power supply program, eset antivirus, coretemp, windows gadgets (cpu usage, network usage, drive usage, weather, and money values monitors), free download manager, giganews accelerator, alt.binz, vnc server, FTP server, peerblock, alcohol 52%, and second copy.

I do NOT have ANY IE toolbars, any junk software, etc.. I disabled autorun for stuff that doesn't need it (and is actually worth installing) like MS office, adobe programs, and impulse. Most stuff that has a bunch of stuff run at startup I do not install cause it tends to be crap, but some of it you actually want to run.

each and every one of them is useful and often essential to be run automatically when windows starts.

I disable useless junk from running automatically, but the above should always be running.

i just checked mine as well. NOD32, intellitype, intellipoint, download manager, catalyst controll center, office 2010 and google translate all start up automatically for me. with SSD start up items are not going to make that big of difference with all that speed

There is my point as well! Why start to not worry about how many startup items you have once you get a SSD ? There no need for more than 5. That is the only thing I noticed the most about a SSD how quick the bootup and shutdown time is.

Who shutdowns their pc though ? Even if you do does it really matter ?

I use sleep and hibernate often... however you still need to shut it down on occasion... typically due to installing/uninstalling things that require a reboot.

take my list, choose 5 items that are NEEDED, explain how every single other item is NOT needed. I did not include drivers btw... I also don't install all drivers, for example, intellitype and intellipoint (logitech keyboard/mouse drivers) are not installed, I personally don't need their extra features over the generic MS drivers so I don't install them. but please, enlighten me as to how all my stuff is "not needed"

That is true but I don't restart usually if a program wants me to to after it is done installing or uninstalling. A lot of the time you can use that program after installing it even if it tells you to reboot. Their are excepts. The only other time you have to restart is for windows updates but that can happen automatically. Even if not you can do it at night or right before you go to bed.

oh, another reason to restart... to change your oberclock.
I like keeping an overclock and an undervolt profile... typical usage in undervolt... when I need some extra oomph (say, for PCSX2), switch to overclock.

two 40gb in raid-0 would decimate the 120gb because.. intel underrates the x25-V so much on paper (like chevy does its camaro).

Can't have the pos x25-V showing real world numbers read as fast as the big bad X25-M now can we?

English is my primary, but not my native language. It is odd that you ask because my diction and grammar were both perfect.

giganews should always be running because it enables other programs to run, I use it often and it is a PITA to run prerequisite programs before running the program I actually want to use (giganews is a prerequisite program, it does NOTHING by itself except enable me to use other programs).
I could make several desktop shortcuts and run the programs one by one whenever I want to use them, but its way too much work for such a light program.
Do you disable .net and java only to enable them manually whenever you are about to run a program that uses them?

and if your english is good enough you will see that I said "each is useful and often essential". That doesn't mean each is essential, some of them are just useful and not essential (eg: giganews), others are essential.
