Intel D975XBX2 (Badaxe2) Problem Marvel Controller

I have an Intel D975XBX2 as the basis of my new video editing workstation.

I have 4 drives hooked up to the Intel RAID controller with no issues (2 in a RAID0 and 2 in non-raid, including boot drive - Windows XP Pro)

My problem comes as I am now trying to setup the Marvel HD/RAID controller to add some additional storage to my box. When I connect 1 or more drives to the Marvel controller, my PC won't boot into windows xp pro. It goes through the POST, the Marvel RAID check, the Intel RAID check, then just sets there. The screen is black, with a blinking cursor.

Unhook drive (or drives) from the Marvel controller, boots again just fine. Doesn't seem to matter if I have one driver on the controller, or 2 to try and setup a Raid. It will allow me into the Marvel RAID setup (CTRL-M), and I can create raid and non-raid drives. But when I reboot, it stops as indicated above.


My BIOS is the latest version and also the Marvel drivers. Windows XP SP2. 4 gig ram. PC PnC 750 watt PS. Nvidia 7950GT video card. Soundblaster. 75GB Raptor boot drive (non-raid). 2 7200.10 drives in a RAID0 config. And another 75 gig Raptor as a non-raid extra drive. All 4 of these are on the Intel.

I have tried several different SATA drives and cables to try and eliminate any possible issues.

I did get it to boot once or twice with a single drive hooked up to the Marvel controller. Was able to init and format the drive in windows. But when rebooting, it locks again.

Anyone have this problem, or any suggestions? If all else fails, I may get me a PCI-e SATAII RAID card. Any recommendations on that?

I found found on several raid set ups that the bios reconfigures itself when you set up a new raid and will select the new raid as the boot device. I have not used a bx2 motherboard yet (on order!) but this could be your issue, I would make sure the correct raid is designated as the boot hard drive.
