Intel disputes the EU antitrust decision in regard to AMD

Frankly speaking I've just got no words.

If I remember correctly their shenanigans to push AMD out of the market using bribes and whatnot were proven beyond a reasonable doubt. WCCFTech is reporting.

It's not like Intel is low on cash either. Why have they decided to dispute the decision/verdict/fine from ... 2014?

What Qualcomm is/has been doing is different. They've got a huge patent portfolio related to mobile standards, and they're reneging on FRAND commitments, allowing them to charge more in licensing fees than anyone really wants to pay. Intel owns x86 (essentially; AMD is their last real competitor), but you can actually use a different ISA if you want. In the mobile world, it isn't so easy to switch to some other technology.

You know way more about it than I do. So who is a worse abuser Intel or Qualcomm?

I think the answer is: yes? Intel just won't let you build a competent x86 CPU, period. AMD "gets away with it", and so does VIA/Zhaoxin. Qualcomm will let you license any of their patents as long as you pay to play . . . even if they have infected industry standards decades ago. They're both bad in their own way.

Competitor or supporter?

Because if someone jumps from intel systems to any other, ex. arm systems, powerpc, for mostly sure they will not return to intel, the jump is so complicated to do, so going back is not a scenario.

If they jump to amd systems they certainly can return one day again to intel system (x86), it's easy jump or transition if you prefer.

It's ironic that intel actually should do their best if the oems keep everything at x86 even if it's helping them migration into amd.

Competitor or supporter?

A little of both, but AMD is the one competitor most likely to take customer base due to interoperability of CPUs and software. It's a much harder sell to move to an entirely different ISA.
