Intel driver version not updating

This is on a 15" MBP with Iris Pro 5200.

I was on version 15.something of the Intel drivers, it updated and reported back successfully. After Windows 10 came out, I manually installed the 15.40 driver because the Intel updater wasn't picking it up and it had added new API support, so I didn't want to wait.


Well, after that, the version number is now reporting as 10.18.15.4279, no matter how many times I uninstall and reinstall 15.40, whether manually or through the Intel updater. It will say driver updated successfully, but always report back as 10.18. I even tried unpacking the driver, and doing it from within device manager to manually install the extracted file, and it said it worked, but it's still reporting as 10.18.

Any idea what to do?

I do not know why, but Intel uses two numbering systems. For instance, I installed (for HD Graphics 4600 from my Core i5) the "driver" labeled as version 15.36.26.4294. But the actual driver is reported as version 10.18.14.4264. First number seems to refer to the whole package (which includes Intel Control Panel, video driver, audio driver), and second number seems to refer to the driver itself.

Intel uses a confusing numbering system.

10.18.15.4279 = 15.40.7.64.4279 You have the latest driver loaded.

Hmm, it's also odd though that Star Wars Battlefront said "you have an outdated driver" and listed the 10.whatever number. But then that's also buggy as anything. The driver dates in Device Manager do make sense though, so I suppose I do have the right one.

Unless you have a specific problem, no need to update driver. You have no problems then move on and forget about new driver etc.. gl
