Topic.

Just a quick question...I have only ever built AMD systems but my motherboard recently died and im using it as an excuse to upgrade my mobo/cpu/ram. I am running a AMD X2 4200 (which was nice while my pc worked) so im curious how this Intel cpu I am looking at stacks up.

Thanks.

the specs looked much better I am just not good at comparing amd vs intel specs

Yes, it surely is. I've just upgraded from a 4000+ X2 overclocked to 2,9 ghz to a E7200 at stock and the intel chip is much faster. Although I have to make more tests with it, the system seems to have more responsiveness and there are some games, like the Grid demo, where there aren't any frame rates drops, like the AMD chip used to give me.

Damn, I should have gone to the "dark side" earlier .

The max i heard you will get out of a 6000 for instance is like 400 Mhz, so the Intel would be your better option for that, stock its faster(E7200) and overclocked its 10x faster so take ur pic

haha, well good to know, at least now I have a basis to go on. just gotta sell a couple more of my old parts and im ready start buying my new setup. I am going with this cpu for sure. I wasnt expecting that much bang for the buck, I had only recently bought the amd x2 4200 for around $60-70 and was really happy with the performance so ill be excited to try this out. I will need to look into getting a decent heatsink for the overclocking though, any recommendations?

I'd say that right now Xigmatek S1283 is the best air cooler you can buy, judging by the price/performance ratio.

That all depends on whether your definition of work is generating heat, or computing power. The Intel quads win in computing power, but lose in heat output.

That seems to be the only downfall with the Quads, the heat generated, but arent the stock coolers on the Quads better than the Duo coolers? I mean considering there are two more cores dont you think they should be putting copper in and stuff like that guys? or is it already implemented?

According to this recent article the AMD quads use a lot more power than 45nm Intel quads. Unless your building a 2S or especially 4S server, where AMD still has a major architectural advantage, there is basically no reason to go AMD.
