Intel E8400 "Wolfdale" *IN STORE* TODAY!!!

Sorry! Earlier, they pulled the page when it went out of stock. It definitely shows it in-stock now until you actually try to buy it. I already have mine so I didn't go that far.

BTW, I just got an email from them advertising a Refurbished Magellan
RoadMate 2000 for $99, limit 5 with coupon (possibly Feb. 18 only). Anyway, it's a shame they didn't have a similar limit for the E8400s.

I just picked one up at the local Microcenter on the 13th. Sales guy said the price had gone up to $199.99, but it rang up for $189.99. I'm sure by now it's up to $200.

I went back yesterday and they still had easily at least 10 left on the shelves. Strangely enough, they were all out of the $70 E2160s and almost out of the $59 Dual-Core Celeron E1200 (1 left). I too have thought about buying them out and selling on eBay, but meh.

I went cheap on the MoBo for now--it's an ASUS P5GC-MX/1333 that I picked up for <$50. I couldn't get it to post and was all pissed, then I tried it with a Pentium D 805 I had and it booted. Turns out I had to upgrade the BIOS to get it ready for Wolfdale. Even though the box says "ready for 45nm" right on it.

Anyway got it up to around 3.22 GHz on that MoBo with 1GB of extra DDR2 667 (that reads at 533 for some reason). That's 9x356 or so. Pretty sure that's memory limited, plus I am not too familiar with the options on that board.

The HSF is TINY. Just like the pic. Loaded to the gills with Folding@Home, it's running at 26 degrees. I'm amazed. I have trouble keeping the aforementioned Pentium D under 70 degrees OCed to 3.42. Albeit with not the greatest heat sink, but it's monstrous compared to the one that came with the e8400.

Can't wait to really test this thing out with better memory and/or mobo. I'll be happy with 4GHz.

Sitting here at an idle with a couple of case fans on, I have seen my cpu fan quit. At first I thought that something was wrong but thats part of the energy saver.

Caveat--26C is the CPU temp, not core temp.
Caveat--the rig is running Linux--Ubuntu Feisty 64 bit.
Caveat--the case is lying on it's side, open.

Also stock voltage.

The ASUS P5GC-MX/1333 won't OC past 3.22 GHz before the SATA drives stop being recognized. Just snapped it up since it was <$50 while I research a better alternative.

Update: with Folding@Home still cranking away SMP work units, case closed and stood up, doesn't go over 32C.

Micro Center has had E8400's trickling in with less than 4-6 at a time. Which are either immediately bought up, or in the case of today, the remaining two "disappeared" a.k.a. employees are holding them for themselves.

no he just came in last month bashing me for posting hot deals, saying this one and others i was putting up were "not hot" because they were about unreleased products and stuff. I told the mods about him. WHy bash finding deals. this post has like 15000 hits and has helped plenty of people find cheap e8400's and now the e8400s are nowhere to be found.

I just got pissed, so i erased all the information in the orignal post and put that. He said i shouldn't be posting shit, so there you have it. Kinda childish on my part, but i've already erased all the links, and dont have a backup now.

most of the info was on how to find one between jan 16th and jan 20th. when it really didnt come out til the 22nd. Now the best info on it is that its at microcenter for 189, and that's still in the title.

I should have just left it alone, and reported it to the mods first.

At long last, I got the last E8400 at Micro Center. No longer at the sales price of $189.99, I had to settle for $199.99.

Oh, BTW. For those near Manhattan Beach Fry's, they are supposed to get a few E8400's in today for around $220 or so. So they'll have them in stock sometime today or tomorrow.

No, All i did was mention how cold the deal was when you first posted it. And many others agreed. You just got emo and decided to edit your post with that bullshtuff. I never mentioned any other post but this one. How about you stop lying to people and the mods? NOW, you have the latest deals. When you first posted, you just linked up the worst deal on the net and many people besides me called you on it.
