http://www.cpu-world.com/news_2014/2014071501_Pre-order_prices_of_Intel_Haswell-E_processors.html

Core i7-4820K 4/8 3,7–3,9 GHz 10 MB 130 W $323
Core i7-5820K 6/12 3,3–3,6 GHz 15 MB 140 W $426
Core i7-4930K 6/12 3,4–3,9 GHz 12 MB 130 W $583
Core i7-5930K 6/12 3,5–3,7 GHz 15 MB 140 W $632
Core i7-4960X 6/12 3,6–4,0 GHz 15 MB 130 W $999
Core i7-5960X 8/16 3,0–3,5 GHz 20 MB 140 W $1108
Cheapest 6C @ $426, 8C @ $1108. To me the former seems within the price range for most enthusiasts, the latter not so much.

Also, aren't the TDP:s quite high? After all there is no iGPU in them either.

Anyway, who's getting what and why? And will someone be getting Broadwell-K or Skylake-S instead?

I somehow knew that those suggesting that Intel was going to let go of one of their "precious" six-core enthusiast-class CPUs for only $330, were likely just dreaming.

All those prices are calculated from retailers. Meaning the prices will be lower. A 5960X will be roughly 10% less for example.

22nm is so last year, yawn.

My next chip will be 14nm or bust. Don't care if they solder it or not, can bring my own CLU to the party.

Bah, no $350 hexacore. Still, it's $160 cheaper than the list price for the 4930k, so it's a step in the right direction!

If ShintaiDK is right about the prices being 10% less, the i7-5820K will run about $380.

Yep, gotta admit it Shintai, Chadboga was right . Pretty low base clock on that 8C part.

And I agree with NTMBK, 350$ for hex core(12T) part would be so awesome...

Well close to $399 as i have said, i guess those are 8-core dies. It seams Intel STILL doesn't want more people buying the HEAD platform. I suppose it is still better than Ivy-E price after all, but overall platform price may still stay the same as Ivy-E with the addition of DDR-4.

It seams im staying with Core i7 3770K for another year. Lets see how the 14nm 6-Core will be priced.

If you check the prices shopblt has for the 4960x, 4930K and the 4820K you'll see that the 5960X and 5930K are barely ($10-$20) higher priced than the IB-E chips. 5820K is $80 higher than the 4820K meaning that the MSRP should be right around $400. So the 5960X wont come out at $1100 MSRP... It'll be $999 as always, showblt is just milking customers.

Also shopblt lists different stock clocks for the HW-E chips than cpu-world does. For example the shopblt listing says 3.5ghz for the 5960X while the early ES leaks have shown 3.0/3.3GHz.

I was thinking more like $350-$400 for the lowest one. Oh well, At least that guy who said $500 was wrong lol

Clock speed drops compared to IB-E and more cost? That really isn't very impressive.

Not really if you look at the 5820k vs 4930k you lose a bit of clockspeed but it is 150.00 cheaper. So that looks like a pretty good deal to me. I think overall expectations might have been a bit high for this release. I never thought the 8 core would be less than 1000.00.

Waiting to see how much Knight's Landing is before getting Haswell-E.

Haswell-E prices don't seem too bad considering the prices of processors during the last 20 years + inflation.

If the 5820 has soldered IHS and can overclock to 4.5-4.6Ghz on something like a Noctua NH-D14, that's a very solid deal for $426 for those who benefit from more than 4 cores. Can't wait for overclocking results. As suspected, Intel would move the flagship to an 8-core to entice users to have an incentive to spend for the X chip. Smart strategy in their part indeed. It will be interesting to see the price of the 5820 at MC since 4790K sells for $280 there.

I've been ready for the 5960X. All they need to do is release it and I'll be the first in line on release day to pick it up.

What will you gain by moving to the 8 cores? Also what do you think the overclocking capabilities will be like on chips like this?

It's interesting seeing the price arguments go back and forth, but the fact of the matter is, enthusiast level CPU prices have not really inflated much at all in the grand scheme of things compared to food, gas, and other luxury items.

I remember the Celeron 300A being around 200 bucks back in the day. Pentium 150? I think that was north of 600 and that was probably 20 years ago or so. So it's whatever. I think the folks expecting 60$ prices across the board, are interesting, to say the least. PC prices overall have not climbed much at all, really. I'm sure that wont' stop some die hard fans from complaining, but the prices are fine IMHO. If you want dirt cheap you have options for dirt cheap. And just like in 1998, you get what you pay for when going dirt cheap. 15-20 years ago you could get a decent but not top CPU for around 200-250$. The same applies today with the i5. 200$ today is less than it was 15 years ago as well, as should be obvious.

It's whatever. Prices are fine.

The chip dies are getting smaller though:

But the chip price has not gone down correspondingly. We'll see with Broadwell, but somehow I suspect it will be more expensive per die area than e.g. Nahalem or SB.
