We will never get the exact power savings becasue intel feels that anything under 125 tdp is ok and will give a better gpu or add more performance to make up that extra tdp they saved in the smaller node but gain perormance to make up for it.

I was saying that haswell should = sandybridge performance wise but use almost half the power to get there. The problem is intel will use that extra savings and beef up the gpu and keep the total packege closer to the same tdp we see today.

Could you elaborate a bit, IDC? I'm feeling like there's hidden meaning in the term "OBR-hardware" that I'm missing.

OBR is the same guy who got himself banned over on XS for excessive photoshopping and faking results/supposed leaks.

Then went on to try and boost up his "OBR blog" doing the same, only to make an even bigger mockery of himself by faking (and admitting to it later) countless "leaks" of bulldozer performance.

If OBR has anything to do with this supposed "leak" then I would assume it is fabricated until proven otherwise.

I think the 8 core E version of Haswell is a given. You should see 8 core E versions of IB as well. As for the 6 core mainstream, I think that is more market driven than technology driven, so who knows.

Someone posted Haswell would have 3 different levels of IGP.

It would be nice, but probably not going to happen, if Intel would create a line-up to allow mixing and matching!

Tha could be across both mobile and desktop. I could see a crazy-low voltage mobile with a smaller IGP to further sip power along with the standard 'regular' and 'faster' IGPs in normal mobile and Desktop parts. Just speculating here.

Ah. Cool. Thanks for the explanation. I didn't know any of that.

i'm going to hang myself now if you don't mind. i just dont know what to do, how to plan a system with an upgrade path these days??

For me personally, I rarely upgrade CPU within the same motherboard. For my current system, I bought it in April 2007 with an E6600 and dropped in a Q6700 in August 2008. I'm going to build an Ivy Bridge system, and will likely be unable to do any CPU upgrade. The way I look at it, Haswell (and whatever successor is likely still on 1155) will bring enough new features that I will want to change platforms sometime in 2015ish anyway.

In retrospect, it would have made more sense to grab a Sandy Bridge upon release and have enjoyed the increased performance over the last year, with the option to drop in Ivy (that was unknown at the time SB was released), but I wasn't doing much gaming that required an upgrade until recently.
