"Verily, when VirtualLarry ceases purchasing dirt cheap Celerons, woe betide Intel, and the apocalypse cometh"
LOL. I did purchase like three G4560 CPUs the past week, I should be getting the last two today, hopefully.

Just received my new official 2016 (almost 2017) i3-2120 in the mail on Friday. Gorgeous... It will be paired with my new ASRock B75-Pro3-M board, which was made on August 2014, one of the last LGA1155 boards made. By 2016, there's only ECS H61H2-MV left.

I don't have any plans to upgrade to a newer Intel socket, only AMD. The fastest CPU it can take for this board is i7-3770. I also need an estimate when this will depreciate down to less than $20 shipped. Then when i7-4770 comes down to less than $20, I will move on to LGA1150 next, probably year 2023. Buy new board now, save it, buy CPU 5 years later. How hard is that.

Do you buy out-of-date canned food at a discount as well?
Well, obviously he buys it on clearance just before it expires, then stores it for at least five years, until can openers and sporks have depreciated enough to afford eating it.

Depends on the use case, I suppose. For regular desktop usage it should be fine. Heck, the iGPU of my i5-520M is still fine for regular desktop usage. It might start to struggle with video playback above 1080p30 as streaming services switch to codecs more modern than H.264, though.

HD 4000 Intel iGPU is probably acceptable for 2D duty. Anything else, get at least a GT1030 for $70 or so.

Looks like 2016 WW05 to me, so early 2016. And this thing has HD 2000 graphics. I picked up an i3-2105 last week, made early 2011 for $17 shipped. It has the HD 3000 graphics.

CPU's have no moving parts, doesn't really matter the manufacture date. Oldest system I have is a 80286 12 MHz, and its going along just fine. As long as you don't get one where an idiot over-volted (which is slim for an i3/celeron).

I want to re-buy a i7-2600K/i7-3770K when they're cheap, but you don't know what kind of hell those have been through.

We have been arguing this point ever since this thread started, but it doesn't seem to catch on. Apparently the presence of a more modern (Haswell and newer-style) integrated heat spreader signals some sort of intrinsic quality improvement even if the chip itself is identical to previous production runs. Oh well. It's not like he's hurting anyone or anything but his own wallet and PC experience.

Yep, we buy them because they're great deal now as long as you don't have any trouble finding the boards.
