Let's compare to one of my modern G4560 / socket 1151 builds.
$28 Biostar B150S1 (Newegg, after discount and 50% off promo code)
$62 Intel G4560 (mp3superstore on ebay)
$35 Geil 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4-2400 kit (purchased before the price hike, from Newegg)
$43 Seagate 1TB 7200RPM desktop 3.5" HDD (purchased from Newegg on a 2-for combo sale)
$20 EVGA 430W PSU that's currently in Hot Deals (not actually purchased by me)
$23 same case as your build, those Rosewill FBM cases go on sale fairly often.
$15 DVD drive (I've gotten them before for $10, combining qty discount with promo code)
$40 Windows 10 Pro (same as yours, or using Bonanza site to buy via e-mail - could be shady)

total: $266

And you don't even really need the DVD drive, making this $251.

Edit: Add a GTX 1050ti from Newegg on ebay for $120, and that makes it $386. For what is arguably a VERY competent budget gaming rig.

$46 shipped ECS H61 + $25 Core i3 2130

vs. $41 shipped ECS H81 + $35 Haswell Pentium G3220.

--So both combos are within $5 of each other.
I don't think this is a fair comparison but to find a lame excuse, only i3 please. The successor to i3-2130 in next socket is i3-4170, about $55-$60 more, or i3-4130 for $45 more. That would be a valid comparison, and I'm still saving money with i3-2130.

The core i3-4170 is more powerful in all categories though. So more money for more processor.

The Haswell G3220 (at around the same CPU/mobo price), on the other hand, is a better comparison as it trades multi-thread for a more powerful iGPU that also works in Windows 10.

So for Windows 10 web browsing (which uses both CPU and iGPU) they should be equivalent and possibly (in the current Firefox) even favoring the G3220 a bit.

This not to mention the energy savings the G3220 would give you. (Eg, Haswell made some nice improvements in idle compared to Sandy Bridge not to mention active power should be lower....especially any video watching where H.264 can be used)

This leaves the question: What purpose do you have in mind that you rather have a Core i3 2130 over a G3220 for? (I can agree #1 Gaming (with dGPU) would be better and #2 1080p 60 FPS VP9 Youtube (without added dGPU) should be better (but I am still not convinced it would actually be adequate for #2...just better))

Please, let's stick to comparing one family tree like Core i3 models only, not compare Sandy Bridge i3 to Haswell Pentium as a poor excuse because it's cheaper to buy. i3-2130 < i3-3250 < i3-4170 are valid comparisons, and you should calculate each of its benchmark score divided by price. i3-2130 wins for best value, and it's touching less than $20 faster than expected.

Remember, i3-4170 will depreciate and touch $25 soon in future. I'm in no hurry at all. I only need to stock new boards and save them. You don't need to change Intel sockets every cycle to work Windows 10 and beyond.

Are you absolutely sure about that?
Yes, I'm sure, Check out ASRock H97M-Pro4 value now. It's now $340 by some 3rd party after it was discontinued on February 2017. Unfortunately, I failed to buy one, but I was nearly close in buying one last year in winter if Micro Center wasn't out of stock of i3-4370.

Some boards are good speculative investment for quick profit to $175. I'll be ready this time when LGA1151 phases out again.

Just received my new official 2016 (almost 2017) i3-2120 in the mail on Friday. Gorgeous... It will be paired with my new ASRock B75-Pro3-M board, which was made on August 2014, one of the last LGA1155 boards made. By 2016, there's only ECS H61H2-MV left.
Nothing to get excited anymore, guys. Unfortunately, that processor was already sold back in March, and when I opened my package today, seller shipped me "L346" instead (December 2013). Now I have to return it back.

I would imagine that "most" used/refurb CPU resellers, would not really notice nor care about the batch # / date code on a CPU. I know that I wouldn't.

It doesnt matter how much they are selling for, nobody will buy a h97 board for $340.

Yeah, I have a hard time imagining why someone would pay $340 NOS H97 motherboard? This so they do what with it?

P.S. I am not against spending good money on hardware (Good software needs good hardware in order for the user to be productive).....but this is almost like paying $100 for a celeron.

You make it sound like there's a whole subculture out there looking for new production runs of old Cpu architectures for some intangible gain. I can't even grasp the idea that there might be more of you out there. Still, society has a tendency to produce odd stuff. You never know, I suppose.

Wow, and you were complaining about picky buyers earlier? Jeeze...

LOL

what kind of moron pays $340 for that board?

I have bought 2 of those brand new for $80 CDN each (after rebates). That's what? some $50 US each?

But I don't buy old junk to hoard them thinking they are going to be valuable in the future. Haswell stuff is very reasonably priced right now since people are upgrading. SB/IB is just a waste of money just like AM3.

I even managed to get a used I3 4130 (the real successor of I3 2130) for free because someone upgraded to an I7 4790 and needed some help. I will use it and a spare H97M-Pro 4 to build a system for my GF.

I wonder if he buys GPUs the same way he buys CPUs?

Just installed a i3-2100 I won for $17.50 paired with 6GB RAM this time, and the performance blows me away. Is this too good to be true, and I don't need Kaby Lake?

Time to unsubscribe to this thread.
I'm going to have a great Friday night, catching up some YouTube videos I've missed due to poor graphics with AMD 760G chipset I could only afford at that time. People are always thirsty for the new, fast stuff, but sometimes you just don't notice at all.

For the price of all these crap systems, you could have bought a GPU with h.264 decoding years ago.

i3-2100 feels almost two times faster than FX-4100, and FX-4100 is 2.5 times the price. i3-2100 is the first and oldest Windows 10 compatible processor with secure-boot to touch $5 within 2 years.

are you saying you can't watch youtube videos with an AMD760 MB? That's a lot of hooey. I have one sitting here that I used as my game/file server and using VGA to connect to my TV. It had no problem playing youtube or videos from the HDD. And my ga-78lmt-usb3 had no trouble playing HD movies using the onboard HDMI.
