I'm NOT voting in this. If you wouldnt wanted flames you shouldnt have posted this This has been beaten to death and IMHO just go with what serves you the best. CPUs are plenty fast nowadays so it'll do the job for you anyway no matter which one you choose.. except for VIA..

People are going to flame no matter what. I would edit this post out before it gets out of hand.
No one is going to listen to your request of no flames.

Ok, no one reply at ALL to the thread anymore. Just vote and be on your way

That will prevent flames.

If people flame, thats that their fault not mine. I can only assume people are mature enough to handle this poll.

I like the Intel chipsets and madeboard of it better, a lot less hassle with flexibility and drivers.

I found that my AMD64 blows away my Intel in many applications, but for some the performance is equal for the dollar and those some applications are those where I actually sit around waiting: compilation and encoding. The other things where AMD is faster are mostly things where quick things get faster, so everything feels snappier, but it is just "comfort".

Note that besides encoding I don't have an actual floating points tests, I expect that this would further favor Intel.

If I would make more use of Lisp code these days things would clearly in favor of AMD.

Also note that I wouldn't like to run a Prescott wattage monster.

You are either with amd or with intel.
Intel did me bad by selling me defective celeron and then dumping their mobo manufacturer to stop producing mobo's for the celeron T. with 256K which I then sold one ebay for next to nothing
I have thrown away celery 366mhz, 400, 533mhz, 500mhz,667 all crashes.
this did not give me any reason to buy any more of their cpu in the future. I dunno if it them or what but what I bought was new not used and it had less then zero error

Today I use AMD exclusively, I have duron 1.1ghzx2, duron 1.2ghz, athlon 1.2ghzx2, duron 1.3ghzx2, applebred 1.6ghz x 2
Since most people are cheap and have limited budget, AMD is the best choice and possibly more powerful then Celeron4 even when compared to Duron

Right now our economy is fvcked beyond repair so it is not wise upgrade cpu often so I am stuck with applebred 1600@2000mhz LOL
and cpu haven't got much faster within the last few years since our recession.
i dunno why they are still selling duron 1100,1200,and1300 when it is obsolete and should be phazed out.

If you want to know what people use thats one thing, but there is no correct answer (especially a simple one) for "whats better" without narrowing it down to specific tasks or programs that you want compared.

For this reason I did not vote in your poll.

cpus got very fast the last few years. recession dont matter. basically they started getting faster umm faster when the athlon was introduced and intel had competition for the very first time. pcs got so fast that a lot of ppl, for professional use, buy a pc today when they bought workstations just a few years ago.

i've had both s754 and s939 now, and i voted intel as while a bit faster in some apps, and most games, a comparable intel doesn't give up that much, an my experience while running multiple cpu intensive apps on winxp has shown the a64 is clearly lacking.
