Was surprised when I searched and didn't see this posted. Ripped from SD:

TigerDirect has the E2180 for $69.99 - $20 Mail in Rebate for $49.99 + S/H

I usually not recommend TD Rebates specially the ones who went through Onrebate.com but this is a different Rebate Company.

Also CompUSA has the same deal for $10 more.

This is a OEM Version you will need a heatsink for this CPU.

Amazing. I don't think Celerons for socket 775 were ever this cheap.

BTW, CompUSA website is now powered by TD. They took over parts of the company.

Plus: 12-month warranty from TigerDirect
Minus: You only get the warranty if you purchase a compatible HSF on the same order.

No, IANAL, but can't that be a possible Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act violation?

Tiger rebates are not too good from what I heard, but it's a good deal if you get the rebate back.

TigerDirect has their own packaging and UPC code for CPUs.

Edit: BTW, be careful how you click-through to TigerDirect. They jack their prices on some things if you go through an affiliate, so this can easily turn into $79.99 when you get to check out.

Cleaned up the links. The click-through google link I provided is the only way to get the 69.99 (pre rebate) price. Going directly to TD shows as 79.99

Great CPU for the price. Just helped my brother build a cheap gaming rig with one of these and 4GB of A-Data DDR2 from Newegg. I walked him through a 30 second overclock over the phone and he's running stable at 3.0ghz 24x7. I'm sure we could push it another 200-400 mhz but he thinks 3.0 ghz is enough.

I just received my E2180 today. Works just fine. I've been watching the deals for a while now and finally put my rig together.

E2180 $57 AR
abit ip35e mobo $67 AR
5 sticks ddr2 1GB hp ram $8 AR
antec solo case $30 AR
antec 380watt earthwatts ps $5 AR
320GB seagate hd for $70
I already had a dvd drive.

Now I have to wait for the rebates to start coming in...

I built it up today and am using an old pci video card. I'm still looking for a good pcie video card deal. Any suggestions? I might turn this rig into a hackintosh osx86 computer.

I jumped on this last week, and was shocked to not find a thread on it here. I knew the TD MIR history, but was unaware of the return policy on OEM chips with no HSF purchased along with the CPU from TD. Regardless, its a very good deal for this chip. Now I need to find out if a BSEL mod is necessary when using it with an Asrock 775Dual board. Last piece of the build puzzle is the Vista Ultimate deal from MS survey spyware (should show up in mid-March?)

Hmm, this isn't C2D like the title says! But OC makes up for it? Do you need a specific board or memory to do that? Any mATX boards cheap right now to go with this?

It's the same chip as a c2d 4*00, but with a smaller cache size. Most P35 boards overclock very well. DDR2-800 memory is cheap right now ($30-40 US for 2GB), and is more than sufficient to overclock these.

I hit 2.7GHz with stock cooler and stock voltage on my E2160 (not nearly as good a deal as this). 3.0 GHz with moderate voltage increase (1.3875, IIRC). It's pretty easy, pretty reliable, and there are plenty of sites that will step you through it.

I'm still debating about this CPU. If not overclocking, wouldn't the retail version be better? $80 free shipping at clubit.com. I don't have an after market heatsink. I didn't buy one back in Dec when they were FAR. Didn't know if I was going intel or amd.

Back in 2002-2004 they were HORRID. We had $325 in rebates and it took 4 resubmissions and 1 and 3 quarter YEARS to collect them.

In 2004 they put their rebates under a new system and completely overhauled it, even dedicating an entire workforce to repairing the outstanding rebates that had never been fulfilled. Nowadays they are equivalent with any other company. Slow, and really anal about details. That's as good as you can get really. Staples is the only company that does a rebate correctly IMO.

Does not compute...

Seriously though, the intel stock HSFs these days would still give you a nice overclock, and if you don't want to deal with a rebate it might be a better idea to get it retail and not worry about it. But it would run slightly cooler and oc slightly higher with a Freezer 7 Pro on top, and cost about the same.

I'm going to do more research into the differences between the Abit IP35-E and the GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L rev. 2.0 but this deal at ClubIT might be worth looking into:

DS3L for 88.88 + Retail e2180 for 71.99 +3.75ship = 164.62 shipped with no rebates to deal with.

Compare to:

e2180 at TD: 69.99 + 8sh -20MIR
ip35-e at newegg: 89.99 +6.61sh -30MIR
freezer 7 pro at newegg: 26.99+5.84sh

Total: 207.42 - 20 - 30 = 157.42

Seems very similar, except you get a boxed processor with warranty, and you don't have to deal with rebates. Also, the DS3L 2.0 seems like a better board all around when compared to the IP35-e. Mainly because it uses all solid capacitors and the new 2.0 has extra usb ports. Also it doesn't suffer from the double boot issues of the ip35-e? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, i've never used an ip35-e before.

I'm typing on my E2180 from this deal (saw it over at FatWallet) and it's great. I went with an "open box" MSI Neo-3 from NewEgg as I have no plans to overclock and it has 4 DDR2 memory slots to take 4 GB of the cheap HP memory. Assuming the rebates come in, it's a nice combo for about $100.

I brought that Masscool HSF for an overpriced $25 at TD before $10 rebate (NewEgg sells it for $10 plus shipping). It's quiet at least and providing the rebate comes in I'm happy with it. I don't care too much about the CPU warranty as I've never had one go out but if you're overclocking it's probably a good idea.

IMO the only "correctly done" rebate is an instant one applied at checkout.
