This one at newegg that we're all buying.

I'm still debating about this CPU. If not overclocking, wouldn't the retail version be better? $80 free shipping at clubit.com. I don't have an after market heatsink. I didn't buy one back in Dec when they were FAR. Didn't know if I was going intel or amd.

clubit deal posted above looks nice

ClubIT has raised the price, and it seems like the "bundle" price is higher than the standard price for the e2180 now. 170.46 total shipped for the combo. This makes the OEM chip more desirable.

Staples is the only company that does a rebate correctly IMO.

IMO the only "correctly done" rebate is an instant one applied at checkout.

Then it's "instant savings" and everyone can get it. Since everyone can get it, the savings amount is less than the rebate would be.

Essentially, you'd end up getting a worse deal, but more people would be able to get in on it. I'd rather get a better deal

In my opinion, that's not the best way. I love rebates because it allows you to stack discounts. If it's instant, you may not meet the threshold. Like free shipping for instance.

Bumping this for those still looking before the end of the month -- still active on sidebar of a google search for "e2180".

As another side note, you can get an additional $25 off a $100+ purchase with you use "eBillMe" (basically using Bill Pay from your checking account). This rebate has nothing to do with TigerDirect.

Info

It will slow down the processing/shipping of your order by 3 - 7 days, but there's plenty of time to send in the rebate(s).

Does anyone know where I can see some benchmarks of this CPU and how it compares to other CPUs when overclocked?

Any idea how this might compare to an Athlon64 4000+ when using applications not designed for multicore cpus? (assuming neither is overclocked)

there are lots of reviews around about the perf differential between the 1, 2, and 4 mb cache chips... the 1mb chips like the 2180 need to be around 300mhz faster to make up for the smaller cache overall... in a couple games it's a bit worse...

the 2180 @ stock speed 'feels' sprightlier on single core stuff than my oc'd 3800 x2's, but they have ddr2 and newer disks, too... office stuff pops a bit faster, etc..., but the difference isn't enough to make me buy new stuff... now, when u add oc'ing it becomes a very different game... @ 3.2 ghz there's still not an amazing difference in office stuff, but gaming is way better...

I'm very tempted to jump on this for a upgrade in my near future. I was going to build a new system with income tax refund money in a couple of months.

My question is should I jump on this now and have it sit in my closet for a month or two, or hold off? I'm a little worried about having it untested till after the 30 warrenty runs out at TD.

If history repeats itself, TigerDirect will renew the rebate for next month...and possibly the month after that.

Very good to Know. I hadn't been following Tiger Directs price on this one. NewEgg hasn't budged.

Thanks for the heads-up on this deal. I picked one of these up along with the Abit IP35-E and a Masscool HSF from the egg. Got the $23 Lite-on DVD burner last week and had the cheap HP 1GB DDR2 RAM and an HD that I got for free AR laying around. Gonna put this in an Antec Sonata III case from another deal. Looks like a nice build for $200 or so (minus a good video card). I think I'll add one of those 8800GT's too and have a good gaming PC for another couple of years.

It's still alive..... There's a new rebate "offer" dated for the month of March. And still listed at $69.99 using OP link.

I may have to get this AND the newly refreshed Abit IP35 deal and make a cheapo box.

This is great -- I'm in for another one I think. Maybe I'll go the IP35 route and overclock as the results are impressive. I haven't bothered overclocking since the early Celeron days (366,550).

What CPU cooler are you thinking of going with?

Sounds pretty awesome and it will overclock pretty well though the small cache will limit it considerably for the price there's no complaining about this.

Not as strong as I'd like to get, but I might have to swing together a quick little rig on this

cmv, you read my mind. I have the same setup with the e2180 and 4gb of the ST RAM going into my build, so all I have to do is wait out the free Vista promo from the MS Feedback survey program. Less than 1 month until we should get the media.

Minus: You only get the warranty if you purchase a compatible HSF on the same order.

No, IANAL, but can't that be a possible Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act violation?

I think that the only refers to returning it to TigerDirect - the Intel warranty is still in effect for the full 12months....

Intel actually doesn't warranty OEM chips at all (to end users). The normal 30-day OEM chip warranty is offered by the reseller/distributor. TigerDirect offers a 12 month warranty if you purchase a compatible heatsink/fan on the same invoice as the chip.
