I bought a couple one for my Neighbor and for a friend. Luckily one of them had a Master Card. Got 10% off! & Shipping only came out to 20 bucks! 10 bucks for each system isn't bad. Of Course I am going to put win98 SE on these before I give them to my friends. These are all legal copies of course (Cough). All Told I got each machine for around 290 bucks shipped.

Dunno why everyone wants the 129 Cellery system. I am really enjoying the posts of others saying they are running win2k with a Cel366 and 64Megs of RAM! Yeah, It might PUT along. But WHY? First thing get at least 256 RAM and Put Linux or win98. you could get this one with DVD & 5 times bigger Hard Drive. PIII 500 is a bit better then a Cel 366. Not only that but it comes with a 16Meg Voodoo3 Video Card. Not a Bad card.

Draw backs are. It's an E-machines. Probably an E-machines Hard Drive.
Only 64 Megs of ram. Power Supplys are Cheap. Built on Video Card.
2 Slots available for upgrades. Built in Modem and Sound Card.

The Good. CHEAP! If you don't like the P/S it can be swaped out for a better one. 256Meg Ram can be had for under 50 bucks. PIII 500 is decent in power.

A little older but Decent Voodoo 3 vid card on it. It's only a zx board with a slot 1 non fc-pga cpu. If it was a bx with fc-pga could probably run it at 133mhz and clock the cpu up to 667mhz. Still with the mastercard 10% off would be about $100 cheaper than building a comparable system.

I'm getting the Cellery system tomorrow and I agree this is a better deal for roughly double the money. It's a week too late though. Oh well..

Maybe someone can post the MC deal. It's at one of those price sites. It's basically a coupon code or gateway that applies 10% when you use your MC.

Damn! This is a good deal. Anybody want to buy a Celeron 366 system.

Sal, Yeah it is one of those enter rebate Code. If you just do a search with google.com like. Rebate Code ComputerGeeks it will tell you what you have to put in.

Also, If you really wanted the better system. There are still 9 left. I'd jump on it. I'd think if you posted your 366 system on E-Gay I'm sure you get close to 200 if not more for it. I can't believe what some poeple will pay for equipment! I should buy 6 more and see what I can get for em! Nah! E-gay is a pain sometimes.

I think I saw this system on the Cellery 366 board. I think I originally passed on it because I really didn't want to spend that much for a E-machines system even if it was only $300. I figured that it was the safer route to go with a $140 system. Maybe it was the wording of their description that scared me a little along with E-machines spotty PS reliability reputation.

In retrospect, this is a good system. Especially now that I'm getting some reports in on how decent the Celeron 366 systems are for the money. The P3 600 system looks pretty good too at just a few dollars more than the P3 500.

I looked for the link for the MC offer and can't find it. Anybody got it for DracoLS?

This was eMachines first leap into the "elite" processor world (non Celeron, AMD or Cyrix Chip). It has an actual AGP Video Slot (not onboard) with the Card in it. So that can be upgraded.

All in all, this is an excellent deal for a Slot-1 Pentium III 500Mhz Machine.

In my own defense, I bought the Celeron 366 as a second computer to mess around with (already have a PIII 866Mhz). I rather like the idea of having a "McComputer" that I won't care when it breaks a year from now. Mine is 96 Megs of RAM and it honestly is not Putting along with Win2K.

I am tempted to get this one too though...heh heh.

ericlp: $290 a piece shipped?? Did you get some kind of bulk discount? 10% off of $327 is $295 + $10 shipping = $305. Just curious.

you might want to edit out the part about pirating windows, that stuff usually gets locked, for a good reason.

I don't have an emachines, but I do have a P3-500 with 256 ram, and the voodoo 3 3000, and win2k runs good on it, and I hit a bit over 70fps at 800x600 on Q3, and thats with out turning everything off.

Any reports on this system? Anyone actually have it and what do you think of it?

Thanks.

The one that is back is actually an eMonster 500 that has had the eMachine logo removed.

Does anyone know if these are also refurbished by eMachines? What would be the difference between a refurb that has the eMachine logo both on the box and the machine vs. a plain brown box one with no logo plate?

Also, do you think the keyboard has the logo removed? That may be kind of ugly since it's also the label for the NUM LOCK, CAPS LOCK, and SCROLL LOCK keys. I know..nitpicky...heh heh

Anyway, just curious.

Ouch. eMachines. Ouch.

I don't know about this P3-500, but I have seen an eMachine Celeron with a 125W PS. Beware of that.

if it's the emonster it has a 145w psu... and kinda hard to swap since it's a micro atx and fits right up next to the mobo...

i got one of these a couple years (it seems) ago... it's a darn nice box for the price... runs most games just fine once u add a 128m stick of memory to it... there's only 2 mem slots... the dvd played movies fine with windvd... and the crystal sound onboard is better than the speakers they gave you!

i've moved all the parts around into different boxes, but they're all still running... and the disk (mine at least) is a maxtor...

What box did you end up putting your Emachines guts into? How did you deal with the front USB port and game port?

I'm thinking about swapping boxes if my PSU dies instead of replacing the PSU.

TIA,

Sal

PS.. I agree. These things are great for the money.

I just got this from UPS.

Wow. What a cool system. I'm putting win98SE just put in a 256Meg Stick.

I thought oh sh!t... E-machines. This is gonna blow. I opened up the case to find everything nice and compact.

It's got a 120Watt P/S. I think enough to run what's inside. Altho, I'd be kind of hard to put in 2 hard drives. But, at least the 13Gig is a Maxtor. That was a plus. The modem was a real modem Win Modem but not built into the Motherboard.

It looks very nice inside. PIII500 has a lot of room. And a pretty nice external fan on the power supply. I was amazed what 300 bucks can get you.

Not bad case style iether.

I am honestly thinking about keeping these and selling my older Cellerons.

My Thoughts. Both machines booted up with no problems.

Hmmm Check out these Results

Not bad for 300 bucks...

Altho, I did add a 128Meg Bar of ram so it came out to just under 320 bucks...

I keep hearing you guys saying just swap out the power supply. I repair E-Machines where I work and they have proprietary (spelled right?) power supplies. I guess if you really wanted to, you can change around the pin configuration on the power supply motherboard plug. Almost always when we see these the power supply goes bad. I have even seen a couple with the motherboard bad too (due to power supply). Just some info for you guys.
