Those low-end Xeons will be cheap. Doesn't that mean that there will be 'consumer-level' chips that will be even cheaper?
I'd rather have the Q6600 *now* than to have to wait until Christmas for something similar.
Not necessarily there is going to be a $209 Xeon Clovertown once the Xeon price drops come into effect 1 week after the July 22nd price cuts but it's only 1.6GHZ a far cry from the 2.4GHZ of the Q6600.
The E5405 being 2.xx GHZ is likely only going to be 2.16GHZ judging by the chart with 1066/1333 FSB, so even with 2x6MB of cache it probably won't beat the Q6600 and it is slated for DP operation so you still have to buy 2 of them even at $209. I doubt we will see any price movements on the Quad's till we reach the 45nm Mainstream Yorkfields in 2008, but I could be wrong and who knows a more competitive Phenom X4 or Intel deciding to be even more aggressive may see some more cuts.
