Intel RMA service?

Well I think my CPU is dead and am going to RMA it to intel just to be safe. I was just wondering what type of time frame should I expect from them? Are they quick to send the product back or are they a bit slower? I already got the RMA number and everything within a day and a half from them so it seems quite responsive on their part so far.

Anyone ever RMA to Intel before?

Legitimately? Somehow I think that's unlikely around here. Overclocking will void the warranty. Defacing the serial numbers will void the warranty (read: lapping).

Personally, I honestly don't recall ever hearing of a CPU of any brand being broken right out of the box.

okey is this a legitamate RMA?

IF you killed it by overclocking, They will know, and they will just mail you back your dead chip.

And yes they do test it, and yes they know if you did fry the core from overvolting/overclocking.

Okey i think i need to explain a bit more. The reason why they test it, is because they debug the thing to find out why it failed. And if its a big problem or a small problem.

I have not even used it yet. I thought my motherboard was dead so I RMAed since ECS isnt known for quality but that did not fix the problem. I have narrowed it down to the CPU.

oh boy...

Lemme guess did you get this at frys?

the yorkie + ECS might be the reason why its not working.

Might be a faster solution just to take it back to frys. :T

But intel's RMA is fast. I believe the average turn around time was about 1 week.

Umm ive RMA'd 3 times total. Once got rejected for not using a stock sink.

The other 2 were DOA or bugged chips. Meaning one core dead upon arrival yet still works. How i have no clue.

And the other didnt even boot up on 5 different boards i put it on. :[

Your cpu is probably fine. Let Fry's test it for you, if you purchased it there. Bring your memory also so they can try it. Cpus rarely fail.

I'd be amazed if it's the CPU. Out of the many, many thousands of CPUs we've sold over the years, I've had exactly *one* show up as actually DOA. The overwhelming majority of the time it's the fault of some other piece of hardware.

Chips do sometimes come dead...As hard as that is to believe:laugh:

I had a chip that was DOA, and sent it back to Intel.
Turn around time was around 10 days if I remember correctly.
Make sure you send UPS or FEDX. I sent USPS with Sig. required and that slowed down the rma abit.

Wow, the chip got there on Monday of this week, and they already sent out a brand new CPU via UPS with tracking.

Intel is a big winner in my books for RMAs right next to Crucial!

You didn't answer the question about whether it was in a Fry's combo. The problem is they sold you a CPU which won't ever work in that motherboard (I think)

Let us know the cpu model number, and the motherboard model number.

No, I didnt get it from frys. I just got them locally. As I see it though, the motherboard states it will support the processor and the Ram was brand new, I tried multiple video cards and PSUs, so the CPU was about the last thing. Hopefully this one will work.

If I have problems I will post them here, but will just play it by ear.

The motherboard may support the processor, but maybe only with a bios update. Please reply with the cpu and motherboard info.

The board had the latest bios personally installed by ECS's RMA representative after I RMAed my Nforce 570 SLI board to them and switched.

i worked at an HP factory about 8-9 years ago.

at the time it was mostly celersons and p3s in the 500mhz range and k6-2s.

the intel cpus i think had a DOA rate of something like .4% . it was more for the amds more than 1%. that said, it wasnt very high. but its possible. I'm assuming intel is better about it now, but it IS possible. though i still highly doubt it.

Sorry to hijack the thread....but Crucial have good RMA's!??!

That's news to me..

Had to RMA two dodgy sticks of Ballistix DDR500 Ram, and all they'll give me is $55 store credit for each.... so now i have to purchase two of their DDR400 sticks, and I still have to pay shipping back to me! (let alone shipping of the sticks back to them).

So I'll be out of pocket for their rubbish..

wait this doesnt make sense.

They said they would credit you instead of replace it for the DDR400?

You need to fight with CSR then, and let her know DDR400 is a downstep not a side step or upgrade, and therefore you should be allowed to get it for free.

If not, then your rub the lifetime warrenty concept in there face and you remind them in a stern yet nice tone, that the price value for ram back then is not $55, and if there gonna credit you, they would need to do so in the 150-200 ranges both, or how much you really paid for it. This is a great time to have kept the reciept.

Remember warrenty means = or greater. Lifetime also means, no depreciation in cost or price, since its gaurentee'd to work lifetime.

So if its crucial's error, you can get your full retail refunded to you.

You need to tell them what you want, crucial is very nice, and most of the time will work with it out with you.

And yes Crucial has the #2 RMA service in my book only second to eVGA.

eVGA has THE BEST RMA. Unfortunately, on the 680 and 780i you use every other month.

wait this doesnt make sense.

Is there more to this story?

There can't be much DDR500 floating around, but the stuff I do see is @ 100.00 per GB.

I guess they won't go for that?

I had that issue with them I think ECS killed my bro First CPU
I couldn't prove it!
Intel Replace the Chip
I replace the MB with IS7
Fry can't set a GOOD COMBO
But Price was STEAL even for just a bare CPU

Well the CPU was received today. Have not installed it yet but was amazed by the timely fashion of Intel. Overnight shipping was great .

Thanks for the support guys about the RMA. Also to the guy who was having trouble with Crucial, did you tell them that $55 wont cover the price for a similar product? They are very flexible with their service.
