How big a difference in battery life and speed do you think we should expect. I know I am way early on this, last I remember reading it was planed for April, but incremental? Major?

Tell me what you think if you know anything.

yeah you were/are early. i guess folks are't too excited bout this. um i know the fsb is gonna get taken up to 800 and with intel their stuf is all about the fsb as i'm sure you know, so there should be some performance boost there. i think i read somewhere that the clock speeds are gonna get upped also. both of these things take more power so it will be interesting to see what happens the battery life. though i do know that they plan on having the fsb step down to 400 when performing light tasks, i'm don't think the current chips have that capability so that should help bl. pretty soo we should see benchmarks for this new thing show up, then we'll know better.

With the release of Santa Rosa, isn't Intel also going to release their follow-up to the GMA 950 graphics? I've been eye-ing some tablet PCs, but most if not all use GMA 950.

yeah, i would expect that they would need a new chipset if they're gonna be usin a new socket and all that. it would be welcome also since that 950 fifty is pretty week.

IsLndbOi I am in the same siutation as you in terms of tablets, gateway has one with an x1400 but its a 14.1 with only wxga (wxga+ would be minimum for 14.1) toshiba had one with a 6150 (which is a little better then gma 950) but it doesnt seem to be customizable anymore.

Hopefully the selections get better when Santa Rosa comes around. I really like Fujitsu's LifeBook T4215, but it doesn't have an express card slot and it uses GMA 950. Gotta have that express card slot for my Sprint EVDO card and later on an ASUS XG Station. I'm trying to replace my desktop with a laptop.

HP is releasing a 12" tablet at the end of February. It has an express card slot, GeForce Go (don't remember which one), but it uses a touch screen like a PDA instead of Wacom technology.

You're both right, Santa Rosa will use a mobile 965 chipset and they'll use the X3000 and 3000 IGPs. Santa Rosa will use a new mobile socket, the FSB max will go to 800, and it will throttle to 400 when idle. Also, eventually the CPUs used with Santa Rosa will get significantly higher clocks than now (2.6Ghz I think).
