Intel sat on releasing Wolfdale for over a year?

Its pretty lame that a Wolfdale chip printed in 2006 is only becoming available to consumers 1Q08. At least in the case of Conroe, with a fab date of 2005, it was released mid 2006.

Someone tell me I am mistaken, please.

That's really not rare, for unreleased CPU's, especially with ones that people get their hands on a year before release. Besides, they have absolutely no competition right now, they might as well sell every Q6600 they have in the warehouses. We keep buying them.

That is when it was copyrighted. All c2d chips say 05/06 depending on the verbage.

Agreed...IIRC, the copyright is issued wen the chip is first taped out (usually a year before release).

Copyright is requested/issued whenever the marketing dept convinces the legal dept that it is ok to risk gaining public attention on an unreleased product by seeking protection for the copyright.

It has little to do with the folks who are actually doing anything such as layout, tapeout, or fabout

This is pretty standard, there are already NehalemNehalem out there running just fine and its a year from being released. CPUs have to go through an intensive tests in order to be approved for sale.

No argument here...it's just that I've noticed that the 2 events tend to occur about the same time.
