Looks like the egg flipped the switch, and is not selling ANY boards with the chipset issue.
It still shows them, but you can't add them to the cart.

Yeah, I saw that. Probably the wise choice for them because they're already going to be absorbing a shit ton of returns. With Intel's vague message about recalls from motherboard vendors a lot of people are just going to send it back to the egg and let them deal with it because you have no idea what kind of dicking around a motherboard vendor is going to give you.

Recall the bad caps that motherboard makers passed off back in the day. IIRC the only maker to own up to it and replace the boards was abit...then they faded and went out of business. I don't want to spread a bunch of fud, its still early...but that tale didn't have a happy ending for most consumers. Hopefully Intel does something to make things right ($$$ wise) for companies like Asus because I wouldn't count of them eating the cost for you out of the goodness of their heart.

I guess the good news is you can probably just use two ports and/or buy a controller.

Given the fact that ASUS is the largest MB manufacturer on the planet, that the Sabertooth has a five year warranty, and that I have my receipts and boxes...

...just plugging into 6G ports and enjoying all the speed I have right now!

I had upgraded to a i7 950 last year and just sold the CPU/mobo to cover changing over to a 2500K/P8P67. My first reaction to this news was to kick myself for not sticking with the 950. But in retrospect, this should *knock wood* not affect me. I haven’t had any issues yet on the 3/Gbs SATA ports, and I can just switch over to the Intel 6/Gbs ports. It sucks knowing that the mobo is flawed, but I know Intel didn’t do this on purpose.

Intel owned up to this issue pretty fast. If the replacement process is smooth/painless, it might even strengthen my brand loyalty. If there’s one thing that’s a measure of a great brand, it’s not only how well they do when things go right, it’s how well they fix it when things go wrong.

yea newegg still, as of this writing, has 8 1155 boards listed. Not sure why but guess they are working through to remove them now.

But don;t worry, you can still buy any of the 7 1155 cpus.

Exactly, I don't care about how nice you treat me when everything is going as planned, show me how you are going to fix a problem and stand behind your product, THAT impresses me...

Yeah, but you're talking about a few WEEKS until the problem is fixed for most people......

honestly my sister was just looking into buying a PC and its hard to even TELL from the mfrs websites which i5s they are using (760s vs 2300s etc). It wasn't as if Dell, HP etc all trumpeted on Jan 9 "HELLO EVERYONE WE ARE DOING AWAY WITH CRAPPY OLD CORE i5s - COME AND GET THE GREAT NEW i5 2300s!"

Intel is being smart - deal with this swiftly and minimize the reputational issues. Dell and HP will still be selling plenty of "Core i5" systems over the next month - they just won't be SB systems for a short time.......

Define "a few". From looking at Anandtech site, intel expects to start shipping new chipsets by the end of Feb, shortages through march and that they hope to meet demand by April. Which means the new boards are probably going to come out with gouge prices most likely. If they had an old chipset they could just ramp those back up and send them to dell to vent the pressure off.

Doesn't surprise me with Dell though, you want to move that old stock out first because its not going to get any more valuable! My point was now Intel has two new products it can't sell.

I agree attacking this quick was a wise move. Putting it off would have just increased the damage.

Does anyone really have issues with Cougar Point ?

My SMART logs are ok, UDMA CRC Error Count - 0

I do see however somewhat reduced performance with benchmarks (not to be worried though), HDTune gives me strange drops but I'm not sure that it's the PCH fault.

Newegg.ca currently has 4 p67 and 2 h67 boards for sale. They are all Asrock, or ASUS models. Wonder what's up with that.

UDMA CRC Error Count - 3 on intel 6g port, but i have 3 month old HDD and i am not sure when this error appear...

Also i sow many times sata cable fail (huge UDMA crc error wise and beautiful woman) on most time it produce system failure, so its not just performance issue!

Wow, newegg is deactivating the sandy bridge cpus now too!

Where do you see that? Newegg is removing the 1155 boards but the CPUs were there a couple minutes ago.

UPDATE:

Yep he is right. I tried to add some 1155 cpus to the cart and it will not let me.

Here's hoping Intel and the OEM's can make good.

Well that's not good, and if this is really connected to the design flaw then 6Gbps ports are also affected

Oh and there should be a power_on_hours mark when the CRC error occured in the logs.

Oh well. Not like the CPU's are going to be very useful without the boards lol.

I guess here is the real question...

...has anyone here at Anand had any issues up to date?

I KNOW the potential is there, but any issues in the last few days?

That's why I always wait a few months before buying a new platform. Let the prices settle, and let the early adopters find the bugs.
