EDRAM adds ~3$ per CPU, it also adds just below 1W in idle mode because the EDRAM needs 940mW to keep being refreshed.

So there is multiple things to consider. Both the financial with something like 350M$ cost per quarter. But also the increased baseline power.

With that said I do think we gonna see a lot more EDRAM in the near future.

Core i7 6700K and Core i5 6600K owners can you please post your overclocks, voltages and cooling used? Oh and don't forget the CPU-Z Validation link/printscreen. We should do a ranking like other forums do.

http://valid.x86.fr/exiy9g

Mobo is an Asus Maximus VIII Hero. 77c max load on one core, low to mid 70s on the rest. Idle temps are in the high 20s/low 30s. Using a Thermalright TS140bw with Prolimatech PK-1. No delid.

I'm not big on long-duration stress/stability tests, they've never been entirely accurate for me in my decades of overclocking. I ran a few rounds of IBT and that's good enough for me at this point, time and monitoring/logging will tell me the rest of what I need to know. I'm going to do some twitch streaming in a heavily cpu-limited game, and that will be the "real" test for me.

Really impressed with this chip so far.. to say the least. Voltage is set @ 1.31v in the BIOS, but tends to jump up to 1.34v+ under stress. Stable so far though.

Do you know how the power consumption scales with capacity? Potentially the 64MB eDRAM parts could be meant for lower power SKUs?

Also, the eDRAM can provide idle power improvements- refresh the display from a buffer stored in the eDRAM instead of main memory, and you get a nice power saving. And because it's connected to the system agent, the majority of the SoC doesn't even need to wake up. Pretty nifty.

I only have the numbers for the 128MB part. I imagine 64MB would still be 500mW+.

But ye, if the benefits to compensate can be found elsewhere it solves the issue.

Quite suspicious that Brian didn't talk about the Skylake goal to remove all cables. Maybe they save that for IFA..

what's your ambient? ...just to know how hot would it get with 30°C ambient temp

They seem to not be announcing things till the related Skylake chip series announcement/launch?
Intel PR said as much afaik. So wireless stuff comes with laptop series Skylake CPU. Same for Mobile Xeon E3 and Xeon E5 I'd imagine.

Intel to launch unlocked Skylake-K processors for laptops

There are certain distinct advantages of desktop computers over laptop computers and vice-versa. Earlier today we saw another desktop advantage potentially eroded away with Intel Thunderbolt 3 external graphics cards on demonstration at its Computing Innovation Zone booth at IDF 2015. We have also heard that Intel wants, for the first time, to bring its unlocked, overclockable 'K' CPUs to laptops. This development follows hot on the heels of the first Skylake Xeon laptops being announced.

...A few hours ago at IDF, Kirk Skaugen, Senior Vice President & General Manager of the Intel PC Client Group, held aloft some early examples of Skylake-K equipped laptops, manufactured by MSI and EVGA. We also heard that ASUS will be producing Skylake-K processor equipped laptops.

http://hexus.net/tech/news/cpu/85703-intel-launch-unlocked-skylake-k-processors-laptops

25W TDP Quad-cores, 4C/4T Core i5, Iris Pro GT4e, brand new Xeon E3-1500M v5 and now unlocked K chips. This is the most intesresting 'H' (25-45W TDP) lineup in years.

The Skylake Family

This confirms all Skylake-U 28W chips will sport 64MB eDRAM. Apple is probably waiting for the 15-28W Iris/Iris Pro SKUs to refresh their Macbook Air and Macbook Pro Retina 13'' lines.
An educated guess: Macbook 12'' with updated internals (Skylake-Y) in Q4-2015, new Macbook Air (Skylake-U 15W) and Macbook Pro Retina 13.3'' (Skylake-U 28W) in early 2016.

Since Microsoft will use the regular Skylake-U (2C/4T+GT2, HD Graphics 520) they will be able to launch the Surface Pro 4 in October.

The Verge said:
Microsoft's Surface Pro 4, Band 2, and new Lumias set for October launch event - A massive hardware event

Microsoft is planning to hold a massive hardware launch event in October. Sources familiar with Microsoft's plans tell The Verge that the software giant will use the event to unveil two new Lumia handsets, the Surface Pro 4, and a Microsoft Band 2. Chinese site WPDang first reported details of Microsoft's plans, and we can confirm there will be an event to launch multiple new hardware devices.

Also no native 2C+GT1 die? Here's hoping GT2 iGPU or a slightly cut-down GT1.5 iGPU makes it to the Pentium lineup this year.

I thought Skylake Y would be 4W. Disappointing.

Hope there's an AnandTech podcast.

BTW, I think the naming like 4+2 is misleading: the CPU had 4 cores, but the GPU had only 1 slice.

Where are the 25W quads?

No 35W quad-cores listed either, maybe marketing forgot?

Desktops are receiving 35W TDP quad-cores so I think it's safe to expect low-power mobile Skylake-H models too (perhaps not initially).

As I have understood it, there should be actual chips available in Asia on September 1. So these CPUs are to be released in 10 days (i.e. not just a paper launch). And still we don't even know what frequency they'll be using? Isn't that very strange? :\ There ought to be leaks by now. The products must be in the sales channels already...

I'm particularly interested in seeing how far they have been able to push the Y series frequency... and how much it'll throttle...

Yes, thanks. But not for Y models. But as I understand it the Y models should be released on September 1 too... strange that the frequencies of those are not known yet...

First Geekbench score of the new Pentium 4405U. Now 15W Pentium chips support HT (2C/4T).
http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench3/3243981

Pentium 4405U (Skylake-U): 2C/4T @ 2.1GHz, 150MHz higher iGPU Turbo clock than Broadwell-U
Geekbench 3 32-bit Score:
ST: 2162
MT: 4375

Pentium 3805U (Broadwell-U): 2C/2C @ 1.9GHz
Geekbench 3 32-bit Score (best score):
ST: 1815
MT: 3234

Pentium 3556U (Haswell-U): 2C/2T @ 1.7GHz
Geekbench 3 32-bit Score (best score):
ST: 1630
MT: 2836

That's a big performance bump at the low-end. One of the first submissions is already 32.6% faster ST and 55% faster MT than the best Pentium 3556U score. Heck, it's actually faster than a Core i3 5005U (Broadwell-U) and the MT score isn't far from a Core i5 4200U. This also means this low-end chip will have no trouble matching/beating A10 8700P Carrizo in CPU tasks.

Core i3 5005U (Broadwell-U): 2C/4T @ 2.0GHz
Geekbench 3 32-bit Score (best score):
ST: 2065
MT: 4328

Skylake-U and some Skylake-H model specs were already leaked, check first post. I guess they will formally introduce mobile Skylake at IFA 2015 2 weeks from now.

4.7ghz at 1.38v spikes to 1.4v under some loads.

Seems stable. 10 passes of real bench so far.

72-79c temps under max load on quiet fan profile
