He confirms the supply problem. Of course he tries to explain it by saying that it's because there is strong demand, the guy is working as a spokesman for Intel after all! As a spokesman you usually try to spin things in a positive manner for your company.

However we all know the PC business is down globally, and people are buying less desktop PCs. So that's not likely to be the real explanation.

Shame you dont apply it to certain other companies.

Tell me the last CPU release that wasnt in short supply somewhere from Intel.

The only reason why it gets extra attention is because Americans got pushed down to the bottom.

Correct, do your home work! When you find a motherboard you want/like go to there support page make sure it supports what ever memory you use. Not all of them post as to weather is will or not. You can google there number to even call them.........

He is doing his homework; that's why he's asking people on this forum for help.

There is no need to shame somebody for asking a legitimate question.

Well the thing is though, that Intel has not had a problem supplying desktop CPUs at launch before from what I can recall. 14 nm is the first time I'm seeing such clear supply issues with desktop CPUs (Skylake, and also desktop Broadwell).

I agree the anticipation of Windows 10 probably contributed to the slowdown in PC sales in Q1 and Q2. But that does not explain all of it, because PC sales have been going down for longer than that, not just the last two quarters. Also, they are projected to continue going down.

You can call it what you want. But most shops was empty.

But again, it shouldnt be any surprise. We see it everytime with flagship smartphones, highend GPUs, the fabled SM951 SSDs and so on.

The only way to change this would be to delay the product while inventory kept building up. Production capacity, inventory and demand.

But since the US moved to the bottom, its just getting more attention on US sites. Here in Europe you can get a 5775C, 5675C, 6700K or 6600K whenever you like. And so can you in China/Japan/Korea etc.

So the IB shortage was just a rumor, and not confirmed by Intel. I.e. unlike for Skylake, where the shortage indeed has been confirmed by Intel.

BTW: I do not recall any shortage when I got my IB 3570K close to launch. Not that it statistically matters, but still.

The thing is sales for enthusiast parts is so low that Intel should have no problem with the demand. It's clear that Intel is having huge issues with yield with anything marginally big; and it would make sense to ship the parts over land to Europe rather than by boat to the US if there isn't enough to go around.

Some indian? website has the locked model listed, can anyone translate those prices into USD/GBP/EUR? I get ridiculous conversions from google.

i7-6700 - reads. Rp 4.525.000
i5-6600 - Rp 3.275.000
i5-6500 - Rp 2.975.000
i5-6400 - Rp 2.725.000

For reference the i5-6600K - Rp 3.525.000

OR
We can do some math 3525/240 USD = 14.7

i7-6700, 4525/14.7 = 308 USD
i5-6600, 3275/14.7 = 223 USD
i5-6500, 2975/14.7 = 202 USD
i5-6400, 2725/14.7 = 185 USD

Says "rumor". Was it ever confirmed by Intel?

Although that was the launch month of 22nm, April 2012. Okay, maybe there's supply problems because of new node. Thing is Intel has been shipping 14nm products since September 2014...that's a whole year now. Kind of different circumstances.

No need, the majority of desktop CPUs sit idle with parked cores.

If they would have decided to introduce hexacore SKUs it does not mean they have to stop providing quadcore SKUs. People that feel they do not need the extra two cores could still get the quadcore SKUs.

So we are back to a tiny niche wanting more cores without paying.

Forget it.

I'm just saying there are likely a lot of consumers that rather would like to see the increased die area being spent on additional cores instead of beefing up the iGPU further.

If Intel tells us to forget about it, I guess we'll have to put out hopes on AMD's Zen.
