Any chance you can take a picture of the "bottom" of that HSF and post??

Thanks, I wanna see what "bottom" looks like.

Sure

Next few days will be interesting with Core i3, Pentium, etc finally going on sale for general public/peasant class such as ourselves.

I was surprised tigerdirect had the i7-6700 up for sale early. I think official launch for the rest of skylake is Sept 27th.

Looks like consumers getting same gimped coolers as last time, man.....

What does it cost them to give us the copper core version?? seems everything nowadays is about giving consumer less and less, for higher and higher prices

Recently at mexican place i frequent i couldn't help but notice the size of the breakfast burrito was now noticably smaller, but the price had gone up by 53 cents. And that's just 1 example.

you would think since we already gave them ~$200 they would have common courtesy to give us quality/copper coolers, but noooooooooo

How much could the cooler matter, if you are buying a CPU with a locked multiplier that can run on a fairly low voltage? Afaik there is not much of a price premium attached to getting these boxed coolers instead of hunting down a tray CPU.

Well, you can almost certainly lock all the cores at the turbo speed, which gives a nice performance boost to the locked chips under load.

Will that cooler work for that?

Maybe.

It's only $10 for the copper one, if you want it.

Its the standard 65W cooler and its been so the last 10 years. Its this cooler because that is all what is needed.

I rather see a twice as big aluminium cooler for 65W than using copper due to the cost and supply issue of copper. But the only benefit would be more quiet operation.

btw, I don't think that Skylake-E is going to be using the Kabylake chipset. The processor people are thinking of has a max of 4 cores, I think people missed that. If that processor is a different 4+2 die altogether that would be strange but I suppose it's possible. Maybe more L3 and 3DXP DIMM support?

Looks like we've been "had", check this out, note where it says

"In stock on October 26, 2015." :

Core i3 6100

http://www.amazon.com/Intel-BX80662...8&qid=1443320974&sr=8-1&keywords=core+i3+6100

Pentium G4400

http://www.amazon.com/Intel-BX80662...&qid=1443321040&sr=8-1&keywords=pentium+g4400

And we were told by WCCFtech that it was "guaranteed" that we would be able to buy Skylake on the 27th of September, but as it turns out the actual release is all the way out in October.

Also, it looks like there was a sneaky price-hike while no one was looking. If I recall correctly 6100 was supposed to go for around $115 and the Pentium was supposed to retail at $65.

You're looking at the price quote of a reseller, not Amazon itself, at least for the i3. They're bound to be higher, like [thread=2448438]the 6700k resellers are higher[/thread]. And who knows how reliable their availability date is?

Surprise, surprise, Intel's 14nm is not healthy, and late, late, late.

Edit: I don't think that I've ever seen such poor availability for a new Intel CPU family launch, ever.

There are Skylake U laptops available in both the US and at least in some European countries. But there are very few models models, and availability is extremely scarce.

Also, Skylake Core Y laptops do not seems to be available anywhere. I find that very strange. I thought those would be the easiest CPUs to produce (assuming Intel is still having yield issues), since they are small dies and low frequency. Not even any reviews of the Skylake Core Y can be found. I wonder what's happening - is the launch postponed or what?

I thought September 27 was supposed to be the "big day", when most Skylake models would be released outside of Asia. I'm getting tired of waiting...

Skylake-E will use the same chipset as the LGA1151 desktop.

Even the Lewisburg PCH may not be that much different either than a glorified Kabylake PCH.

Mainstream Skylake have been released outside Asia for a long time. Its just about America.

Note that he was talking about Skylake based laptops. Very few laptop models seem to actually be available stores in US and Europe, and availability is extremely scarce. And Core Y models I've not been able to find any at all. Not even any reviews online. If you've managed to find it, please share, because I think there are others looking for it too...

I was talking about desktop. Laptops is a different matter since it depends largely on the OEM. Just look at Carrizo supply, its pretty much nonexistent. Same goes for Windows 10, since they haven't gotten that updated many places either.

But I can buy Dell and Lenovo Skylake laptops here in Denmark via the account managers at said companies.
