This is starting to peek my interest here. I am typically a AMD guy but think I will be giving the 6700K a shot this time around. I am wondering how the GPU part of these intel style apu's are compared to say a AMD A10-7850K?? I already know the cpu side will be way faster but really want some info on the GPU side of things. DO you think they would be able to do 4k playback??

Well just based on that fact if true I would be sold!! When can we expect The New Socketed Mobo's to show up?? I will be going all out this time around and will get one of the better mobo's and hope for a refresh on this socket.

Anyone else feeling nostalgic about the 6600 and 6700 naming convention? This could be Core 2 Duo (Quad) all over again. My Q6600 is still kickin'.

Haswell scores ~2600 @singlethread at 2.6 Ghz, their results are misleading. Also there could be Turbo enabled on this Skylake.

You're suggesting Skylake should be the same performance as Haswell?

I would have thought it logical that Skylake will offer superior performance to Haswell, though please enlighten us if you know otherwise ^_^

Indeed but visaemacs doesn't sound right.
I'd argue that "vis-à-vee" sounds better. Different school of magic, though

Skylake's arithmetic score (91.8) multiplied by 1.6087 = 147.68 GFLOPs

147.68 GFLOPs (Skylake's theorized score at 3.7 GHz) divided by the equivalent Haswell score at the same clock speed (114.58) = 1.29x higher IPC, again based only on these assumptions of accuracy and scaling. I know SiSoft is far from a perfect source of specs and conditions, but for now it's all we have.
That is just maaaad. If true.

Damn...new motherboard required.
Yeah. Look on the bright side, if you don't buy $200+ boards every socket, it's not so bad. I am in a bigger dilemma about the memory though, whether I keep my DDR3 ULV Kit or sell it. Need to see performance numbers, really.

I don't suggest that. Only saying that without infos about Turbo clocks (if enabled) we can't exactly compare it to Haswell. Not to mention that this Skylake ES has poor memory scores (much slower than DDR3-1600 DC on Haswell). This effects the scores a bit.

This will be a tough year for the competition. With Broadwell GT3e, 4GHz Skylake and a full new line-up they will have to slash 2012 FX prices again. Kaveri Refresh should debut at lower prices too.
As GTA 5 shown, performance per core matters, especially on the gaming side.

No point in even comparing. AMD's desktop line is pretty much on-hold until Zen is released in 2016. But then comparisons will for sure be really interesting.

+1 for your post, my e8600 is still @ 4.5Ghz and running strong along side my Q6600 @ 3.6Ghz and they have been going strong for like 7-8 years now 24/7 pretty much so no biggie if they take a digger and bite the dust.Anyways I am after one of those 6700k's for sure and I am feeling the upgrade itch bad.
I really hope they come out around June or July I dont wanna wait till Sept thats just to long to wait for me.:awe:

I am very happy that Skylake-K supports DDR3. Now all i need is LGA1051 mobo that has 4 DDR3 slots to accept my 8x4GB of DDR3 memory. Hopefully at least some mobo makers will release such product...

Quick comparison using AnandTech results for Haswell and older chips. Assuming ~12,5% better performance (Core i7 6700K vs Core i7 4790K) and a 12% bump from Core i7 4770K to Core i7 4790K, here's how the new Skylake compares to current Intel processors @ stock:

26% faster than Core i7 4770K.
36% faster than Core i7 3770K.
47% faster than Core i7 2700K.
81% faster than Core i7 965.

I can see lots of Nehalem/SB/IB users finally upgrading.

It supports DDR3, but you need to use a new form factor that's compatible called UniDIMM. It's mainly for OEMs only.

If 10nm is not coming till 2017 I think we can expect another Devil's Canyon style refresh and Iris Pro GT4e variants next year. Core i7 6700K probably packs GT2 graphics.

Yep, looks like they even left some gas in the tank from a naming perspective. I can just see it now...the 6770K, codenamed "Satan's Pass."

I am interested in SKL MT improvements, having my fingers crossed that there will be at least some non-UNIDIMM motherboard options. If not, having to change my DDR3 DIMMs to something that we dont even know it will last as an standard is kind of meh (and an expense I am not willing to go through).

Its Satan's Peak, not Pass, regardless you aren't supposed to know that just yet, so who did you bribe? Was it coolaler again?

Really? Ouch then, there is no way I am buying 32GB of DDR4 or going down to 16GB either. No Skylake for me I guess

There is still hope that Asrock or some other "renegade" company will release normal DIMM compatible DDR3 mobo. It is great business opportunity with DDR4 prices at where they are now.

It's not just the DIMM form factor, Skylake only supports DDR3 voltages of 1.35V, and nearly all the stuff that's currently out there is 1.5V or 1.65V. I suspect it's a concession they've made mostly for portable system manufacturers, rather than those who might want to hang onto their DDR3.

My DDR3 is 1.35V

The alternative may have been DDR4 only.

From a MiniITX perspective I am looking forward to smaller memory modules.
