ShopBLT Kaby Lake Celeron/Pentium Pre-Order (US)

www.shopblt.com/search/order_id=%2521ORDERID%2521&s_max=25&t_all=1&s_all=BX80677

2C/2T Celeron G3930 @ $45
2C/4T Pentium G4560 @ $68
2C/4T Pentium G4600 with HD 630 @ $87

apart from HT the Celeron clock is significantly lower and it lacks 1MB of l3, the g4560 clearly stand out as the best option.
the HD 630, hmm I don't see the point, unless the g4560 IGP is worse at video decoding, both are terrible for gaming and require discrete graphics anyway.

That is, if you're willing to pay.

Antonline on ebay has the G4600 already (not pre-order), for the steep price of $100+.

Checked again. As of now (6PM ET), ShopBLT has 5 Pentium G4600 in stock for $87. They are also one of the few stores in the US with Kaby Lake Core i3 in stock (7300/7320).

If HD610 has the same media encoder/decoder thats more than enoght. It will still able to play some moba and old games.

It will still beat the crap out of anything on AM1.

I wonder what percent of those 7700ks can do both the CPU OC and Mem OC of 4ghz

Kaby Lake chips in general have better IMCs than Skylake, 4000 should be doable on most of them I'd imagine if your motherboard and memory are up to the task.

But yes in general, the better the core is, the better chance the memory controller is good as well.

This is why we need storage as memory solutions like 3D Xpoint to succeed. I'd be fine with going back to Clarkdale like CPU if fully optimized platform in 2022 or something offers truly instant computing(Instant boot with no sleep states or system S states, instant application launch, instant disk bound maintenance operations like anti virus). In fact, that would be the real "640KB is enough" platform. CPUs are dead aside from replacements for the vast majority of people.

That's super ironic isn't it? If you went back in time to 2000 and told someone like Anand that PCs 20 years later still won't be able get out of standby in <1 sec to let alone cold boot he would just laugh at your face as if you are speaking tech heresy.

I want to pick up a G4600 and see how well the HD 630 Kaby Lake iGPU does with Dolphin 5.0.

I'm thinking that those Anandtech KL Dolphin numbers must be off.

3.7ghz 6100 8.33
3.8ghz 6300 7.68
3.9ghz 6320 7.1
4.2ghz 7350K 8.03

That's real strange. The 6320 looks right, but the 7350K at 4.2 should be beating them all.

It's not hyper-threading because they all have that. Huh, weird.

That benchmark is just the CPU however, I'm also looking at the Kaby Lake 630 iGPU over the i3-6300 530 iGPU (which I currently have).

The only difference between 530 and 630 is the media engine. Other than the added video features, the IGPs are the same.
The revised video engine in the Kaby Lake chips now supports H.265/HEVC Main10 profile at 10-bit color depth and also the VP9 codec in hardware. Furthermore, HDCP 2.2 is also supported in all chips, which allows Netflix 4K videos, for instance.

Wait what?!? Everyone said the IGP of KL is 10% faster. That isn't true then?!?!?

For mobile it is true there is improved performance, but only due to KL's ability to boost the IGP clock higher and for longer periods than SL mobile chips could manage within the TDP limits.

For desktop, you would not see this effect.

The IGPs are the same, with differences amounting to clock speeds.

Wow.

That's actually quite a surprise to me. I hoped for much more out of Intel. That's just disappointing.

There is some indication that the 630 will be/is faster but more benches are required to be sure.
We've already discussed the data from that review, the difference is debatable as long as reviewers might have been using different driver versions for 530 and 630 respectively. (15.40 or older vs. 15.45)

In that review 630 was around 1200 in FireStrike, while 530 was around 1100. Using driver version 15.45 on my 6600K @ 4Ghz with DDR4 2666 I got quite near that 1200 score:
