The irony of someone with Red Team in the avatar pretending Kaby Lake *is not Skylake* is undeniable.

I'm running a 6700K@ 4.7Ghz, and have been since the 5th of August, 2015. My laptop has a 6700HQ CPU, as well as a 980M GPU. To suggest my avatar means I'm incapable of buying Intel/Nvidia is flawed, as I recognise when their products are superior and buy them.

Are you suggesting that Kabylake isn't Intel's 7th generation core architecture? I'm well aware that the cores are exactly the same as Skylake and only the iGPU and process technology has changed, though we have to face facts. Intel markets Kabylake as it's 7th generation CPU architecture, so lets call it what it is. Are you suggesting Kabylake isn't worthy of the '7th generation' tag?

Copy and paste from another thread:

It makes no sense to me. If the 7700k isn't enough a 100 Mhz faster model won't be good enough either, that's just a minor 2% increase.

This is the first time the HEDT platform will receive a 'Core i5'. Will be interesting to see if Kaby Lake-X can reach even higher clocks than Core i7-7700K as well.

While Core i7-7740K got a 100 MHz bump, Core i5-7640K actually has a lower Turbo clock than Core i5-7600K (4.0 GHz vs 4.2 GHz). Any chance they are enabling HT support here, just like they did to the Pentium lineup? The next logical step for Coffee Lake is 4C/4T Core i3, 4C/8T Core i5 and 6C/12T Core i7, so why not. BenchLife says no, but apparently there are conflicting sources about this according to CarnardPC.

Yeah, 21 more watts and only a 100 MHz bump? I was sort of hoping that KBL-X would be 4.5Ghz & 4.8Ghz Turbo. This is silly (aside from the ability to upgrade later to SKL-X and whatever the next 10nm Xeon is).

Why would anyone want a quad-core chip on the big socket when it has much higher platform costs and offers no meaningful benefits to 99% of desktop users? Intel had a quad-core LGA 2011 chip for Sandy/Ivy Bridge, but dropped it for Haswell/Broadwell since it was such an obviously bad deal and few people bought it.

Primary job role is integration validation of FIVR at uncore for Cannonlake SoC. FIVR controls the voltage rails to core, Graphics and ring. FIVR communicates with Power management unit using SVID protocol. Quickly ramped up with Cannonlake architecture in particular with FIVR and started execution.

Looks like FIVR is really coming back for CNL ULV.

Kaby-X doesn't make a whole lot of sense right now. Maybe it'll become more clear at launch, or maybe not.

Right now I'm thinking per-core clockspeeds might go higher on Kaby-X than anything else on LGA2066 assuming all cores are active. It might be the LN2 overclocker's dream. But that's really niche.

HEDT isn't for the 99%, it's for the 1% enthusiasts. If you want a top of the line mobo and you want an upgrade path, why would you choose Z270 when X299 + KBL-X is available?

Most users buy pre-built systems and don't overclock, don't game, don't need 8 cores, etc. For them a dual with HT or a quad (with or without HT) will do the job fine, even with the iGPU built in.

Intel had a quad-core LGA 2011 chip for Sandy/Ivy Bridge, but dropped it for Haswell/Broadwell since it was such an obviously bad deal and few people bought it.

They dropped it because it was a bad deal, but it was a bad deal because it was objectively worse than the mainstream counterpart -- which was usually an architecture ahead.

Intel Pentium G4560: Kaby Lake's Real Gift
The Best CPU for the Money

The G4560 at $64 is pretty amazing. It not only invalidates the Core i3 range but it also kills off the higher end Pentiums as well. It's 22% cheaper than the $82 G4600 and yet it's clocked just 3% lower. Similarly, it's 31% cheaper than the G4620 while it can't possibly be more than 5% slower.

The chip is no slouch in gaming either, proving to be the perfect companion for a graphics card akin to the RX 460, GTX 1050 or 1050 Ti (it worked also well with the GTX 1060 though we think a sub-$200 GPU makes more sense for playing CPU-intensive games on the G4560).

With two cores and no Hyper-Threading, Intel's previous entry-level Pentium G4400 struggles in today's games. By adding Hyper-Threading to its Kaby Lake Pentiums, Intel has given this series a new lease on life, albeit while cannibalizing sales of its Core i3 range.

Yep, great value for the dollar. Still can't believe all the hate Kaby is getting.

This is definitely the best part of Kaby Lake, the bottom end where most people can afford. Building a sweet rig that includes a G4560, RX470 (best bang/buck on lower end), and an SSD, for under $500 while getting respectable 1080p performance with MAX settings?

The only thing that could top this is a 4c Ryzen under $100, and that seems like a distant possibility.

(excepting RotTR for some reason)

4 core Ryzen is going to be based on the monster 8 core die, at least until Raven Ridge comes out. Going to be very tough for AMD to compete with the price/performance of the G4560 which is based on a small dual core die.

It's kind of funny when you think about it, Intel being the budget champion.

It really is. I have a feeling they're preempting any damage Ryzen could do to their low end, and it's already benefiting consumers!

EDIT: My god those RX470 prices... $160 before MIB w/ Hitman for the MSI Armor, and $130 after MIB?!

Great time to be a PC gamer. Build a nice cheap PC, grab a high quality 1080p IPS monitor, and you are good to go.

This is pure speculation, there can be hundreds of reasons why he doesn't work for Intel anymore. Based on zero informations claiming Intel fired him is nonsense. The other guy is still working for Intel and there were much more people involed, Nothingness claimed Intel fired all people that worked on it.
