DDR4-2666 is the only thing I see different.
And considering that Kaby-S works fine with DDR4-3600 in good mobos, and DDR4-4266 in excellent mobos, that's hardly an argument.

In fact, i would not be surprised if Kaby-X would have worse DDR4 OCs because of mobos.

What is your source?
My source in that case is my stupidity: I thought these were job announcements for recruiting new people to work on FIVR. I can't even blame a lack of coffee

The rest of my message was nonetheless correct: Intel can fire entire teams that they need to fulfill their own needs or their contracts. This has happened all over Europe recently.

The 4 channel mobos might have slightly lower OC capabilities. But I personally believe the I7-7740k will be released with quad channel ram and maybe even some extra PCI-e lanes. Anything else just doesn't make any sense to me.

Even then the use of the 7740k is doubtful because afaik dual channel ram and 8x pci-e for the GPU is sufficient for the gamer. Pro users will probably want more cores anyway. But enthusiasts may be willing to spend extra for those cool sounding features.

I'm still hoping for edram on that chip, however unlikely

Some fresh Skylake-EP/EX rumors from Chiphell.

- Xeon Gold and Xeon Platinum
- Unclear if Xeon Platinum refers to high-end Xeon E5 and/or Xeon E7
- The fastest Skylake-EP model could reach 205W+ TDP
- High-end Skylake-EP/EX will have 32C/64T*
- L2 increased to 1MB per core / L3 down to 1.375MB per core

*Close source still says Skylake-EP tops out at 28C/56T

Cheapest way to get HD 630 if you need it.
We already knew Purley would be 32C.

Still can't believe all the hate Kaby is getting.

Mostly from folks looking at 6700k vs 7700k. The new Pentiums are the real stars of the show. Too bad you can't overclock them!

The packaging designer who worked on Ice Lake BGA is unemployed and was appparently laid off in the restructuring.

That's sad.

In fact, i would not be surprised if Kaby-X would have worse DDR4 OCs because of mobos.

Ehhhhh maybe, I dunno. Much of what goes into a modern memory OC is in the IMC rather than the motherboard. HEDT mobos tend to be built to exacting specifications, too.

>15% Performance Improvement With Core i7 8th Gen

Does anyone know if that's Cannon Lake-U (2+2) or Kaby Lake-U Refresh (4+2)? Doesn't look like SYSmark 2014 would benefit much from the extra cores:

What exactly? There won't be a Devil's Canyon like release for S1151 and a TIM version isn't coming either. Also I told you that the clock rate is so high already with 7700k that Intel cannot counter attack anything with their Quadcore if AMD comes up with a competent IPC+clock 8 core design, even the 112W Kabylake-X SKU clocks with 4.5 Ghz @ Turbo when 7700k already did 4.4 Ghz on all 4 cores.

Err, no, you were wrong. These parts are Kabylake-X, and have been on the roadmaps for many months. It's a completely different platform, LGA2066 for Kabylake X vs LGA 1151 for current Sky/Kabylake platforms.

Pipe down, kid.

It was clearer after I posted this that the 7740k or whatever is actually Kaby Lake-X and on LGA2066.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/do...el-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-?product=80939

https://communities.intel.com/thread/111280

Intel 21.20.16.4590 driver, first official release for desktop and mobile Kaby Lake released in Jan 2017, also supports Skylake.

Sadly, although the download link says "Win7, Win8.1, and Win10 64-bit", it's not for Windows 7. At least, not unless you have a Skylake CPU. Kaby Lake support in these drivers is ONLY for Win10.

Of course, I'm certain it's just a software lockout, there's probably no reason that the drivers wouldn't work for Win7 64-bit, if you could get the installer to work right.

Edit: It seems like something is wonky in these drivers. I installed them over the Win10 auto-installed HD630 drivers, and on one DeskMini box in Win10 64-bit, when I go to the Intel Control Panel, it shows: "OpenCL: 0.0" for driver version. On the other one, it shows the proper 2.1.

Why wouldn't the OpenCL drivers get installed?

Same issue for me, I solved it with DDU by removing Intels display driver. A new install helped.

KBL-X only seems to make sense if there will be no successor to 7600K/7700K for the mainstream platform. Perhaps, beyond Kaby Lake, if you want overclocking, you'll have to pay up for HEDT motherboards.

That's not a popular rumour around these parts.

Makes some sense, in a sort of sick-to-my-stomach way. Maybe Intel is planning BGA-only for manstream?
