I'm thinking that the 7940X is going to be interesting given the benches with the 7900X vs Ryzen/TR.
The 7940X has 4 more cores and similar clocks to the 7900X.
Going by specs alone (from http://www.anandtech.com/show/11698...cations-18cores-44-ghz-165w-on-september-25th), the 7940X is the Intel HEDT chip to get. These bullet points are for Intel and HEDT only:It would be my choice, if it was not so freaking expensive. 7920x price is the max i am willing to potentially pay, and even that is too much. Anyway, 7940x´s ability to run 12 cores at 4GHz out of the box looks mint.

Not really, they're dead even. Overclocked the 7740X edges out the 7700K tho.

Well, no one even considers an Intel IGP with any mildly serious gaming.When overclocked, barely. At a price increase of $40+ more for the chip and roughly $30-50 more for a mobo. Oh, and the 7740k has no igpu.
Yeah, I love Intel's IGP and that's what I use it for.Well, duh. But it is useful for emergencies and troubleshooting. Its a handy feature that you're losing while paying more money for the chip.

Nope! The $1,700 6950x was Intel's best-selling HEDT chip. 15% is a big deal for those who just can't have enough processing power in this niche space. Also if you're going to go crazy and spend upwards of $5k on a new system, $700 for 15%+ more performance is bearable.You can get 15% more performance and all you have to do is spend 70% more!
Do CPUs this expensive just exist to say "look, we're faster" even if nobody actually buys them in any meaningful quantity. Or have they sold well previously?
To possibly head off a criticism/preemptively straw man you all: I know people like to bring up the supercar analogy, but I think driving a McLaren P1 is a vastly different experience to driving a regular but still expensive sports car. With a CPU like this you're shaving off a few seconds of off long running tasks at best.
Intel fans want nothing but the best, even if they have to pay 200% more than their closest competitor. Only 70% more is a bargain to them!You can get 15% more performance and all you have to do is spend 70% more!
