The locked i7 7700 is such a bad buy right now.
Welp, just bought a 7700K. 279.99 at Microcenter (plus 30$ off with a matching mobo). Didn't open it yet, though... Should I wait till Monday? I've sold my 3770K rig today and need a new build ASAP...
Do your requirements call for maximum single-threaded speed? Or multitasking / threaded power?Welp, just bought a 7700K. 279.99 at Microcenter (plus 30$ off with a matching mobo). Didn't open it yet, though... Should I wait till Monday? I've sold my 3770K rig today and need a new build ASAP...
Do your requirements call for maximum single-threaded speed? Or multitasking / threaded power?
If it's the former, then good choice. If it's the latter, you've done screwed up, boy, and should have picked up a Ryzen 7 1700X for the same price. It has twice the number of cores and threads, and outclasses the 7700K in multithreaded software.
Didn't you know?...unless your machine is 100% for 1080p gaming, buying intel is not tolerated here.He posted what software he is going to use, and for the one piece of software that benchmarks are readily available for, 7700K outpaces Ryzen significantly.

This thing will fly off the shelves.
I think it has to do with lawyers.

This confirms 4cores 8threads for at least one 'U' chip at 15watts tdp, with a base cpu frequency of 1.8ghz. The igp is an HD 620 with a base of 400mhz.LaptopMedia: Intel Core i7-8550U (Coffee Lake) – specs, performance and detailed benchmarks

Well, after years of waiting to upgrade, I think the i7-8700K is going to be the path I choose for my main PC (assuming the leaks are true, which I have little reason to doubt). I was very close to pulling the trigger on a 7820 or 7900 but for the price difference, I can buy the 8700K and most (or in the case of the 7900, ALL) of an 8 core Icelake if I need to upgrade again sooner than anticipated.
