1. This is not a Intel roadmap
2. It doesnt say anything about mainstream segment (socket 1151 etc)

edit: Also to add that Intel knew about 8-Core ZEN before 2017.

What segment would SoCs with 4, 6, and 8 CPU cores in 10nm be for?

(a) Data center
(b) Mainstream Desktop/Notebook
(c) IoT

Intel 10nm Cannon Lake was on leaked roadmaps in 2014 (for late 2016 delivery), but the core count wasn't mentioned. That linked in profile mentioning core counts was from 2015.

Could be all, AMD did exactly that at 14nm and Intel could do the same at 10nm. Just because it says SoC i could also easily say this is Mobile only.
And as I have said before, this is not a official Intel roadmap.

Mobile only. Right. So 8-cores in <45W power envelope, but fewer than 8 cores at a 95W TDP?

This makes no sense.

Intel does charge more for the mobile i7's, not to mention the mobile Xeons. So it's plausible they could have done an 8 core die and sell the fully enabled model for those markets and a cut down model to 6 for desktop i7/i5.

That literally makes no sense. They could charge more for an 8-core than they could for a six core on desktops, so if they've made the chip already why not sell it?

This comes from Intel's page (a few days ago). It means Ice Lake-S is already 'released' to MB manufacturers, at least regarding specs and other essential info. Usually happens 1 year before the actual market launch, so a 2018 release for Intel's mainstream 10nm+ CPUs sounds reasonable.

The big news for me is the 8 Core confirmation, it's a quite logical decision from Intel. Another nice MT bump is on course after Coffeelake 6C. And Intels 5W mobile part gets 4C. Icelake support for Z390 is no big surprise because of the IMVP9 support. Some people couldn't believe while some told that we can't rule out Icelake support because of IMVP9.

Few people took it seriously when I mentioned this possibility back in June. Turns out it was true, the CNL PCH-H (300) Series Platform does support Ice Lake-S. New cores, core count bump, much improved iGPU and new process. Looking forward to it.

I was slightly expecting Z390 to not support ICL so that I could upgrade to CFL/Z370 with piece of mind, knowing that Z390 wouldn't add much , but I can't wait a year anyway, so Z370 it is.

Me too, but OCed Core i7-8700K will serve my CPU intensive (high refresh) gaming needs for the foreseeable future.

Hmm. Now that I read this, I want to skip Coffee Lake and wait for Ice Lake.

Already jumped on the six-core bandwagon, first with Thuban (pretty-much the first "consumer" 6C/6T CPU, although the Westmere Xeons were 6C/12T, and may have pre-dated them slightly), and then with R5 1600 (6C/12T mainstream).

Wanted to get a 6C/6T CFL to try out, for S&G, but truly, I don't have any real need for one.

Now I'm thinking, maybe 8C/16T Ice Lake, in 2018 some time? Have to look forward to a possible 12C/24T Zen2 for AM4 too. That would be really sweet, at the same price point as Intel, or slightly lower. Why get 8C/16T, when you can get 12C/24T for similar price? Performance of each is currently an open question though. Fewer, faster cores, or more, just a tad slower cores? Where have we seen that battle played out before?

That said, it's possible that Zen2 will be on 7nm, and will clock much higher, and have IPC improvements vis-a-vis Zen.

So, this is a very exciting time to be a PC hardware enthusiast. Unfortunately, it's also a very expensive time, as prices seemingly are rising across the board: SSDs, RAM, dGPUs, and now CPUs. Arguably, you're getting more cores, and more performance, but it's not free, prices are rising on CPUs too, in terms of absolute cost. (As well, PC sales are declining, among the non-enthusiast crowd, which means that product sales volumes are lower, and the are less Joe Sixpack buyers subsidizing our cutting-edge technology R&D. Thankfully, DataCenter sales are.)

Wait!
I have to be wrong, but what I'm reading means that Z370 will support only 14nm CL CPUs? While Z390 motherboards will support CL and the IL 10nm? That doesn't make sense in my head.

So IL is going to be LGA1511 too? W T F F?

And if this were true it'd be ONLY for 390? no for 370? fuck, I don't want to keep waiting

Not necessarily, the chipset does not determine the socket pinout. The chipset merely requires a certain physical &logical connections be supported by the CPU (which is a small number of actual 'pins').

Kinda hoping that we see more leaks soon. If the 8700k is getting released early next month you would think there are a lot of them floating around in warehouses at this point.
