DDR3L desktop variant is pretty much identical to DDR3, except it runs 1.35V. I am 100% certain that MC on Skylake can handle 11% voltage increase to 1.5V. Ofc there could be problems with booting, but there should be no additional problems running DDR3 or overclocking DDR3L with some extra voltage.

For me the problem is that i have 4x8GB and I need them, 16GB would be painful

Interesting, didn't think about that, thanks for that info.

Edit: so I guess one downside of this is, you wont be able to OC or hardly you will be able to OC a DDR3 kit past the 1.5V on this board?

The thing I want to see is that finally real quad cores without HT is about to hit the market... Maybe the Core i7 era is about to end

There have been "real" quad-cores with and without HT for a number of years already. IIRC the Q6600 was the last where a quad-core was really two dual-cores slapped together. Also, I doubt the i7 line will end, HT is still useful to many professional/workstation/server loads--if not so much on games.

So, according to the latest Bench-Life leak we're only 3 months away from Skylake-H (GT2 / GT4e). 4C+GT4e Skylake-H should provide much better graphics performance than today's 4C+GT3e Broadwell-H.

Any 3DMark 11 or Vantage numbers for Broadwell-K yet? If that projection translates to 50% better gaming performance or something close to that then we're looking at some killer integrated graphics performance, quite enough to run most titles at reasonable settings/resolution without a dGPU.

I percieve 3 things:
- Finally REAL QUAD Core i5 in laptop segment.
- Extremely broken iGPU, enough to screw nVIDIA BIG time.
- Pentium and Celeron died permanently in this iteration and to make it worse, i3 is about to die in desktop.
Maybe Goldmont is far better than expected and finally Intel is taking Desktop Core i3 and the rest of Pentium and Celeron as BGA chips.

And yeah... seems that Skylake is a BIG change from Intel... good in some aspects and bad in others.

I don't see SKL GT4e in this Roadmap. Also Pentim models coming ~6 months later usually, look to Broadwell. It doesn't necessarily mean Pentium died permanently. It's too early for a more exact launch date for some SKUs.

Toshiba unveils Astrea 2-in-1 PC with Intel Skylake CPU, 4K display

Microsoft and Toshiba haven’t shared many details about the Astrea yet, but the folks at Mobile Geeks spotted an unnamed Toshiba convertible on display at Computex… and it certainly looks like this could be the same computer mentioned by the Microsoft blog.

The 2-in-1 computer features a 13.3 inch, 3840 x 2160 pixel UPS touchscreen display, up to 8GB of RAM, and a 2.3 GHz Skylake processor.

It has an Intel RealSense 3D camera, SD card slot, HDMI port, two full-sized USB ports, and a USB-C connector.

I'm a bit confused...is Broadwell not being released on desktops? Looks like there is a release for Skylake already...
Haven't kept up with CPU releases lol.

Argh, it pains me to see so much space on an ITX board wasted on a heatsink for the southbridge. Really hope Icelake moves the southbridge on die.

M.2 on the back seems like a good choice though, and the socket looks far enough from the DRAM and PCIe slots to fit in a nice big cooler like the Big Shuriken 2.

Based on Broadwell-K's 3DMark 11 results and mikk's leak (up to 50% faster) we can roughly estimate how a ~65W TDP Skylake 4C+GT4e would perform under 3DMark 11.

Core i7 5775C (Broadwell 4C+GT3e): 3057 points
Skylake 4C+GT4e (estimated): ~4585 points

Looking at NBC's data Maxwell Geforce GTX850M/GTX950M-based notebooks (running Intel quad-core mobile CPUs) score between 4150-4680 points.

Too many unknown variables but it's still interesting to see the progress from Intel's camp.

Manufactures are confirming the 100-chipset motherboard will be available in August

Several hardware manufacturers have confirmed that Socket 1151 motherboards (with the Z170 chipset) will release in August. With this, it seems that Skylake will launch very soon after the release of Broadwell, which Intel has delayed for quite a while. Broadwell will launch in the next 30 to 60 days. Anyway, enough about Broadwell. You're here for Skylake. Representatives of MSI and Biostar have confirmed that their Z170 motherboards will be available for purchase in August.

Aside from MSI and Biostar, ASUS also confirmed they will have a pre-built PC with Skylake launching in September. ASRock also confirmed that 100 series chipset motherboards will launch early August, with the Skylake CPUs following later that month. However, Intel might change the schedule, as no exact release date has been given.

So Intel will basically be done rolling out Skylake parts top to bottom by the end of Q1? Much better execution than we saw with Broadwell.

EDIT: BTW, I Google'd "Intel Channel Day H1'15" and found the .pdf that this comes from:

Skylake adoption might be fast too. ASUS already hinted they will launch Skylake notebooks running Windows 10 in Q3 (probably September).
Broadwell will power the first wave of devices but I bet the brand new interesting designs will be based on Skylake.

I really like the fact that Intel is pushing Iris Pro in different segments too.

LOL... Why? So you can burn a month of warranty before you can even see if your shiny new board will POST?
