Intel really needs to get their availability issues sorted out. Is 14nm still having yield issues, perhaps, or did they just rush skylake to market?

Quick look at the first retail Carrizo benchmarks from NotebookCheck. Now remmember this AMD chip can be set anywhere from 15W to 35W (cTDP), I guess this particular HP model is closer to the latter as we're talking about a 17'' notebook.

Quick comparison with Broadwell-U Core i5 and estimated Skylake-U Core i5 performance (10% improvement). Core i5 5200U is the lowest bin Broadwell-U Core i5. There is a faster Carrizo model (A10 8800P) and a bunch of faster Broadwell-U models (Core i5 5300U, Core i7 5500U, Core i7 5600U) too, I will include results as soon as new reviews are available.

Cinebench 11.5 - CPU Single 64Bit
A10 8700P (15-35W TDP): 0.86
Core i5 5200U (15W TDP): 1.25
Core i5 6200U (15W TDP, estimated): 1.37

Cinebench 11.5 - CPU Multi 64Bit
A10 8700P (15-35W TDP): 2.36
Core i5 5200U (15W TDP): 2.82
Core i5 6200U (15W TDP, estimated): 3.1

....

Short story, despite the hype Intel maintains a sizeable CPU performance advantage (especially in ST) and Skylake-U is right around the corner.

New review (different notebook), now with TDP set at 15W according to CPU-Z. Unfortunately mainstream Carrizo APU (A10 8700P) results are worse than NBC showed:

http://notebookspec.com/hp-pavilion-15-ab030ax-review/304430

Also very poor MT scaling, probably due to TDP limitation.

We need AMD to compete, this is a very sad state in time for PC Enthusiasts if Intel can't even meet their 2nd delayed timeline for Skylake. Broadwell Desktop processors still MIA in North America. I have a feeling initial Skylake desktop CPUs will be slim pickings August 5th in NA.

And what would AMD influence with that? You think a bigger AMD magically solves everything?

Intels biggest issue is to make SB and IB owners upgrade.

Lol....You couldnt do nothing but to rush on the "explanation" that certainly suit your preference, but that show to be not only probably but surely the most wrong possible.

And it cannot be due to 4 cores being clocked lower in MT than a single core in ST..?.

At least they will get the owners of the more recent BTrails to upgrade sooner than the ones you mentioned...

Should had AMD got a bigger marketshare than a fierce competition would had yielded much more compelling products.

People dont need to upgrade because the pace of innovation has considerably slowed down.

Otherwise at current nodes we would have 8C Excavators and 4C/8T BDWs as mainstream mobile APUs in 600$ 1080p laptops, certainly at lower frequencies than the current offerings but the ST fanatics could always rely to equaly high turbos...

Slightly slower than the Notebookcheck 17" device. But the TDP might be the same, only that the 17" device runs cooler which affects performance a bit. This device runs with Dual Graphics by the way, OpenGL score is slower nevertheless. How useful. Not looking good. There is a small window where it competes against Broadwell and OEMs are aware of it. Skylake-U will only increase its CPU lead and from the GPU results we have a simple GT2 should be enough to overtake Carrizo in real world. For people wanting a new laptop best advice is wait for Skylake if they can.

And they won't, those people are smarter than the average Joe (even most averages won't upgrade their CPU due Windows 10) since the new tech is costing more and more and the performance difference is not that dramatic after all.

The only way they wins is that MS make Windows 10 only for Intel Skylake.

On Xeon side, is another story.

AMD is going down with Carrizo... was supposed to be better and ended to be worse than Kaveri....

Two new Face detection OpenCL results from Compubench.
https://compubench.com/device.jsp?b...(R) Core(TM) i7-6700 CPU with HD Graphics 530
https://compubench.com/device.jsp?b...00+CPU+with+HD+Graphics+530&testgroup=overall

i7-6700= 18.6 mPixels/s HD Graphics 530 1150 Mhz= 21.9 mPixels/s
i5-6400= 12.5 mPixels/s HD Graphics 530 950 Mhz= 17.4 mPixels/s

Here is my Haswell result with same or similar driver version. DDR3-2133 is used.

i5-4670 3.6 Ghz= 13.0 mPixels/s HD Graphics 4600 1200 Mhz= 17.3 mPixels/s

i5-6400 is the entry i5 65W with a rather low clock (2.70-3.30 Ghz). i7-6700 over i7-4790 are ~10%, seems plausible.

So... the i5 is barely showing any improvements and the i7 takes all the cake?
Expected.

i5-6400 is 2.7GHz with 3.3GHz turbo within 65W TDP whereas the i5-4670 is 3.4GHz (3.6GHz for mikk) with 3.8GHz turbo within 84W TDP. The fact that the scores are similar means it's quite a large improvement actually.

It's likely both. 1C turbo usually spoils MP scaling, and a TDP cap could weigh more on MP. Which at least supports the older hypothesis, that we are looking at 15W scores of a 28nm bulk processor.

Based on what ?? Even Kaveri 20W TDP will be faster than Skylake-U GT2 in real Games and Carizzo is faster than Kaveri.

Users who want to bring their existing performance DDR3 to Skylake are going to have a much tougher time, though. Because the new memory controller only supports DDR3L at 1.35V and 1.5V (XMS) speeds, the 1.65V required to get DDR3 to hit high speeds rules them out. Some vendors are working on making their DDR3L-based Intel 100 Series boards compatible with existing 1.5V DDR3 kits, but expect these to be in the minority.

I have to think about it. I'm using 2x4GB DDR3-2133 1.5V, it should work with some Z170 boards.

Is there a list of Skylake SKUs being released on Aug. 5th? I know that the unlocked i5 and i7 are being released, but what about the cheaper locked CPUs? Anything lower than a quad-core? (Such as a locked i3?)

What about BCLK overclocking of locked CPUs? I saw something mentioned about that, but the clock speed that they were showing (on an ES, no less), was LESS than the clock speed called out in the CPU Name string. Which didn't make me too hopeful.

Thinking of possibly being an early adopter, if I can snag an ASRock Z170 ITX board. Looking for the (mostly) cheapest CPU option, and then attempting a BCLK overclock.

Would a "65W" locked quad-core be too much for an ITX enclosure, with vents but no chassis fan?

Was thinking of this chassis:
http://www.directron.com/wt02.html

It's cheap, small, has a replaceable PSU of a standard type, good layout (doesn't block CPU heatsink), and holds a full-sized HDD and DVD drive. (Which I plan on using a bracket in the HDD bay, and two SSDs, or one SSD and a laptop HDD.) Only downside is, it doesn't have a built-in chassis fan.

Q4 for i3, Pentium and Celeron.

Lol, by real world you mean 25W for SKylake and 15W for Carrizo..?.

This is rubbish. 19W Kaveri hardly beat 15W Haswell in gaming.

Same as above, one of those 25-28W "15W" Haswells..?..

Objectively Carrizo made a much better first impression than Core M if we are to compare the first public numbers, and for Carrizo we stil lhave very few.

HD 5500 is Broadwell and as you can see Carrizo is losing in some games. Skylake Gen9 LP will bring its biggest improvement in a low power environment:

You are joking right ??? Haswell-U HD4400 is close to Beema/Mullins in real games, not Kaveri

http://www.notebookcheck.net/HP-EliteBook-755-G2-J0X38AW-Notebook-Review.126452.0.html

This is hardly better than 15W Haswell. You must be dreaming saying this thing will beat Skylake-U. No chance.
