Goddamn that's a steep (read: stupidly high) price, unless, by some miracle and very tight NDAs, it ends up being a hexa-core. If the i5-6600K ends up being above $250, I'm going with a Devil's Canyon.

The i7 MSRP has been going up during every Tick cycle. This was the price I expected.

The one thing I'm really curious about now are the rumors of the Skylake GPU being 50% faster than the gpu found in the 5775C. If that is true then we have reached the point where any future GPU sold by AMD and Nvidia for $100 or less has been caught up with by Intel.

The death of sub $150 discrete GPUs would be in realistic in 5-6 years.

That may only happen with the Skylake GT4e.

When skylake GT4e will be released next year, AMD and NVIDIA will have 16nm dGPUs, so the death of $150 dGPU is not going to happen. Not to mention that only Apple is using the Iris Pro so far.

BGA Skylake GT4e could arrive by the end of the year or early 2016 (LGA desktops later). H2-2016 is Kabylake GT4e 2x 128MB eDRAM time.

Mostly Apple used Iris Pro because it was restricted to niche BGA quad-core parts. Now we have LGA Broadwell-K, later this year Skylake GT3e arrives on ultrabooks and Skylake GT4e covers mobile, 1P servers (BGA) and desktops (LGA). Intel will slowly push it to mainstream.

Ofcourse the i5s, i3s and Pentiums won't have that iGPU. I was trying to explain that while SKylake i7 seems to be a terrible upgrade that doesn't justify the increased price Intel might have reached the point where their iGPUs now compete with a discrete GPU.

This is a big milestone because it should mean in 2018 i5 CPUs will have GPUs as good as discrete cards. If that progression keeps up then by 2020 pentiums will be as capable as the lowest end cards and that's a big revenue loss for AMD and Nvidia if they can't offer a similar product.

That's not quite right. All the big laptop makers also use Iris Pro to some extent today but we're talking about desktops.

Five years is a long time. Maybe among desktop buyers Intel loses their appeal but that's unlikely. Anyone wanting to make a cheap gaming PC will be a lot more inclined to go Intel (compared to today's budget minded buyers) unless AMD and Nvidia can come out with their own competing cpu/gpu combos on a chip. Nvidia can't even if they build one based on ARM. AMD could but they are making 2 very big bets that we won't know the outcome of until 2 years from now.

Another thing I wonder is what Skylake will do to the prices of Haswell chips. Provided the performance increases are less than stellar, a used Haswell (locked) chip and lower priced boards would seem to be a very attractive bargain.

New Core i7 6700K Geekbench result, this time 32-bit (easier to compare):

Sweepr, how do we know what clock this was ran at?

Seems that 4.7 is the wall for Core i7 and 4.8 is the wall for a i5... Interesting. And the i5 has far better performance of a 2500K.

So it's decided. Core i5, here we go!

BTW... 2.6 volts... That's insane
... Really insane... Far worse than the WR Bulldozer.

Seriously, are you a bot? Anyway, 2.6 doesn't seem so bad if the damn thing was running at 6.3 GHz.

Wow, you deduced the entire overclocking ability of the 6700k with only 3 samples. Do you also sell fortunes in tents on the weekends?

Did you read the whole thread?
Just read it and you will make conclusions first.
After all, seems that the Core i7 is not that impressive compared to the i5

i7s have always been about adding some extra features like HT. When you have stuff that will take advantage of HT, the i7 looks far more "impressive" than non-HT i5s.

Did you read my post? You cannot make any sort of conclusion yet of Skylake's average overclocking potential. You simply don't have enough samples to judge.

Plus Intel drivers still suck for their video cards. They display artefacts, some games basically don't work etc. Intel needs to invest in this if they are going to completely replace lower end cards.
