As an example, a quadcore 6700K is about 50% faster than a 8 core 8350 in CB for raw computational power.

So in this case, 4 cores = 12 cores in performance.

Why limiting yourself to CB, (you really lack wisdom these days) you should have used Sysmark as a more fair comparison..

Well, 30% advantage at Hardware.fr, that you linked, that s how much better perf/$ given that a FX8320E can provide the same perfs as a FX8350..??..

Ah, there s a GPU, that s right that it change everything...

Those charts above are a bit misleading. Crank the 2600K up to 4.5 GHZ instead of it's stock settings and repeat the test. I admit I'm tempted by an upgrade even though I don't need one. If that 6700k had a soldered IHS I might just bite.

there is tremendous value in beeches at pure stock settings because more people run CPUs at stock vs OCing them

personally im too damn lazy to do it anymore, I just want to plug it in and have it work without messing with it

My hunt for the fabled ITX board continues. After talking to Asus the Z170I Pro gaming uses a non replaceable Broadcom Wifi module. Unfortunately known to have issues.

what AI and Physics have to do with directx?

What he's saying is that with massively reduced drawcall overhead there will be more free processing power for other things like AI, Physics and even sound.

So, does anyone think Skylake-E might arrive earlier than Q3-2016 if the rumors of Broadwell-E being cancelled are true?

It seems the Fatality is the last one. Just need to replace the Broadcom Wifi card with an Intel (Its a mPCIe slot). But else it seems I finally reached goal. Now I just need to wait till I can buy the board. I dont like I have to pay a healthy premium. But there is no other boards left until the H/B series releases.

The other 5 ITX boards was such a let down. I hate the race to the bottom mentality. At least the NUC cant let me down for HTPC.

I guess I can ignore this launch and keep my 4790K for the foreseeable future. The 6700K is only 5-6% faster according to AT, even less in games, and it doesn't overclock any better or even have the big L4 cache of the 5775C. It might make more sense for Sandy Bridge owners.

I'll be happy if arrives sometime in 2016

Yeah, that's my fear - we won't see it until 2017 and KabyLake will be the main release next year (except for maybe some of the trailing Skylake models early next year).

I'd like 6 or 8 cores, but I don't think I want to go with a current model and not sure I want to wait another 12-18 months for Skylake-E. The 6700K is probably fine for me seeing as how I believe even my 2600K will still be a good CPU well into 2017 (and beyond).

Does anyone think AVX-512 was cut because of power consumption, even though the FIVR is removed. Also, I wonder how much the lack of FIVR 2.0 will affect Core m..

I'm really excited for GT4e, it should have nice performance.

Given how AVX use increases power on Haswell (on desktop it requires voltage increase and for larger server chips when AVX is used frequency is reduced to keep heat under control) it's a possibility, but my bet is that it would add a significant area. Add to that you need huge memory BW to feed it and that widening vectors brings less and less benefit to typical applications, and you can understand Intel will only have it for Xeon.

Power consumption and area. You don't do multiple core variations without good reason.

and where with dx11 you need a quadcore, with dx12 dualcore with HT may be ok
but he says the opposite

Data from Hardware.fr review:

Lol, a 4C/4T Core i5 6600K manages to almost match octo-core 4GHz+ FX8350 in MT applications at stock. With OC it will be able to beat the FX9590 power hog in many highly-threaded apps and absolutely demolish it in anything that doesn't scale past 4 threads.

Now when it comes to games Core i5 6600K was almost 40% faster than FX8350 and 28% faster than FX9590 overall. Even in those modern games that fanboys use to showcase FX like Crysis 3 and Watch Dogs the Skylake Core i5 was faster than FX9590. I kinda get why some people are putting their hopes on DX12 miracles now.

It's actually more in games than applications. Take a look at Hardware.fr, Hardware Canucks, HardOCP, Eurogamer and other reviews (preferably those tested using DDR4-2666 or faster RAM).

Any benches of a sandy bridge I7 at 4.6 ? I am still on sandy bridge and the only thing I want is better minimum frame rates. I have zero cares about any other synthetic crap. I am happy with the encoding speeds of my old system.

So the Asus z170 Deluxe mobo usb 3.1 ports are Asmedia controllers. There is a version that will be released later that uses Alpine Ridge controller.(thank ddarko for info). Does anyone know how much of a performance difference the is between the 2?
The Intel controller will probably be faster. But for you and I, my guess is that the difference will probably be negligible. I can't imagine the chipsets in flash drives and enclosures being as fast as either controller.

The main benefits of Alpine Ridge will be Thunderbolt and HDMI 2.0.

Some more Skylake vs Haswell:

They got 4.7GHz out of their sample, which improved scores by an impressive 26.5% compared to stock. At that speed it would comfortably beat 4.7-5.0GHz FX9590 in AMD's most favourable task from the review, video editing.

Sometimes 800-900 Gflops doesn't shine over a 400-500 Gflops GPU, except in 3dmark.

It's impressive how much they closed the gap in some titles. Like you said, there's potential here. Anyone tried overcocking HD Graphics 530 yet?

Are there any plans for a desktop Skylake chip with EDRAM and if so, when is it supposed to arrive?

Stopped by Microcenter. The had Z170 Deluxe and the ROG Maximus Hero VIII(Which looks really good.) The Z170 Deluxe was $350 I believe. They have the i7 6700k priced at $380.00 in their system(He said that may not be the final price when its in stock) Not sure why they are not updating their systems with what they have in stock.
