So I reached a stable overclock with my i5 6600k of 4.2ghz at 1.275v which is really poor. Couldn't even stress test 4.5ghz at 1.45v. Temperatures never got above 60c so is there something that I'm doing wrong or did I just get a poor oc cpu? I'm not disappointed with the performance at all, it's much faster than my 4.4ghz 2500k but I expected a bit more based on testimonials.

Sounds very odd. Professional overclockers (8pack in particular) said they tested a significant amount of Skylake CPU's already, all of which do 4.5Ghz at stock volts.

How are you increasing the voltage? Which voltage setting are you using etc?

According to a leaked product page at Sam’s Club, Dell is going to update its Inspiron 13 7000 2-in-1 convertible laptop series by replacing the 5th Gen Intel Broadwell Core i-series CPUs with 6th Gen Skylake.
Skylake is expected to bring slightly improved performance of the processor cores and integrated graphics, better power efficiency, and various multimedia-oriented enhancements. The leaked Dell Inspiron 13 7000 7359 model is listed with a higher-end 6th Gen Intel Core i7-6500U Skylake dual-core CPU with the Intel HD 520 integrated graphics. The 7359 series is also expected to be available with other chips from the same family, such as the Skylake i3 and i5.

How are you increasing the voltage? Which voltage setting are you using etc?

My mobo is an MSI z170 gaming m5. I'm using the override + offset setting with the voltage set to "auto" and the offset set to +0.100. Voltage seems to droop a little bit at load, CPU-Z shows right around 1.275 when stress testing. I tested it with just the voltage override setting and no power saving features and results were the same.

I'm changing the CPU frequency through the CPU ratio setting without messing with the bclk and everything appears fine in CPU-Z as far as voltage & cpu frequency are concerned.

I still don't understand what's changed with the eDRAM, and why they changed it and the benefits.

The eDRAM on Gen 9 is a memory-side cache, while on previous generations it was a victim buffer for the L3. It basically means it no longer needs 2MB L3 cache penalty(8MB to 6MB on i7s and 6MB to 4MB on i5s), and it can be used by wider applications. Like for example the I/O devices.

The fact that eDRAM is being used on 15W/28W devices must mean they are using the 2nd generation eDRAM, with lower latency, and much lower idle power use. 1st gen eDRAM had rather high idle power use, making it unsuitable for super low idle power chips like Us.

Very odd. I am able to hit 4.2 @ 1.224v. I am using a set voltage (not Auto), and I have my LLC on High.

Something I've noticed with games that used to nearly max out 4 cores on my i5-750 is now they barely seem to go above 13% CPU usage. I use Rivatuner Statistics Server to send graphs of various performance readings to my keyboard's LCD so I can see it during gameplay.

It does occasionally go higher as if another core comes in to use but for the most part it seems to be doing all this on one core. What do Haswell users get during Witcher 3 and Arkham Knight?

A lot actually. They are depending on other companies to commit to an EUV-enabled roadmap so that the entire EUV ecosystem (not just the ASML litho portion, but also mask makers, defectivity mappers, design and layout tools, etc) gains the critical mass it needs sooner instead of later.

The less committed other companies are to making the investments that are needed in areas of detection, pellicles, masks, etc then more of that financial burden will fall to Intel to fund and enable.

Take immersion litho for example, one of the reasons why it was able to take off and become an economically viable litho alternative to 157nm dry-litho was because TSMC made full and public commitment to it. Which made it all the easier for many other IDMs who were on the fence about immersion-litho to feel confident in green-lighting R&D efforts into bringing their own tools in-house. Which enabled the industry to hit critical mass all the quicker, bringing down tool costs and increasing yield/throughput all the faster owing to the broad learning going on across the industry.

That's really not what I was attempting to speak to.

There is a whole ecosystem that must reach mature levels of capability, it is a level of complexity that I suppose is only understood by folks who have experienced firsthand what it takes, say for example, to make a change in 200->300mm wafer-size transition manifest at the fab level. (just guessing, grasping at straws as to why things aren't obvious to others which are obvious to me as writing on the wall)

Anyways, this is the stuff I have little energy or desire to tango with rangos over. I stated my quandary in a post way above, but truly only BK can answer my question, so I should probably just bide my time and ask the guy when it comes to pass. Voltage set at 1.35v in BIOS, set load line calibration to high and squeezed out another 100 MHz. Posted at 4.7 GHz but would not boot into Windows. Overclocking this thing is boring. I remember the old days with an Opteron 165, working for days to get 3 GHz stable. Gonna let it ride at 4.2 GHz at stock voltage.

Apple will probably pick 28W Skylake-U GT3e (MBP 13.3'') and the mighty Skylake-H GT4e (MBP 15.4''). Xeon E3-1500M v5 is a possibility for the MBP 15.4'', leaks already confirmed there will be GT4e models in this line. My guess is early 2016 for the Macbook Pro 13.3'' and late 2015 for the Macbook Pro 15.4''.

Thanks looks like i'll need to break the bank to get the 15.4inch GT4e igpu should be mighty it even has more tflops than M370X! and hopefully they go all out with Alpine Ridge with HDMI 2.0. Skylake is really looking good for mobile.

Strong showing by Skylake Core i5. Faster than 4.0-4.3GHz FX8370 (Vishera) in every single benchmark, keeping up with the Core i7 4770K at equal clocks despite the lack of HT and even beating higher-clocked Core i7 4790K in some tasks. I agree, too bad they didn't test Core i7 6700K or Core i5 4690K.

Intel is finally taking external graphics seriously:

But we could eventually see third-party graphics docks that let you add your own graphics card. And it could also let you upgrade in the future when you’re no longer happy with that card’s performance

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but I just built myself a new skylake pc and I am having various issues with it and hope that someone can help me determine the cause. My specs are:

Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2400Mhz (2x4Gb)

WD 1Tb Internal
CM B500 ver2 500W PSU

So I first installed Windows 7 and then I wanted to install windows 10. So I went through the installer and when it restarts (setup copied to hard drive) then it gives me an instant blue screen (the new one with the sad face) with MEMORY_MANAGEMENT error. Which is usually the RAM. So I removed one stick and then WINDOWS 10 Installed perfectly. Then I wanted to check if it really was broken ram so I put then other 4gb module back in and it worked. No blue screen. So I left it. But now I'm getting a weird type of pixilation/stuttering whenever I watch youtube videos or if I play a game. It looks like a visual effect from a movie. So I guess what I'm trying to ask is: do you think its bad RAM? a bad motherboard? or simply bad drivers. I suspect its definitely a bad hardware component but I'm not sure what.

Yea thats cause you got an intel processor, amd processors works so much better with win7->win10 upgrades.
