Considering he is using Asus with their own custom LGA1151 socket, it may simply be the socket. Its seen before with Asus.

But again, he is getting memory errors. He would get no error codes like this with a completely dead CPU.

From the Asus tech:

Yes, but he tested on a gigabyte board too. Memory was also swapped, still no post. It seems to be the IMC and thus a dead 6700k

I didnt see that when I skimmed the thread. But again, it wouldnt be the first time a custom ASUS OC socket kills a CPU on its own.

It seem if you are using accelerate instruction sets that hammer the cpu with unnatural loads at voltages beyond the spec then it can cause damage. Intel would have tested and tuned for longevity within spec. so best not use these programs when overclcked, especially at high voltages.
Doesn't Intel already have an AVX related throttling (separate TDP limit)?

However, Prime95 is part of the real world software universe and uses efficient code (hand tuned by George Woltman in the past, now maybe with help of others) for fast big num operations. It's also part of the GWNUM library.

The thing is, Prime95 is NOT a "power-virus". It's a distributed-computing app. Lots of people use it for the intended purpose (searching for prime numbers) every day.

If Intel were sloppy in terms of engineering SKL for "max loads", then perhaps SKL isn't a good CPU to use for DC rigs.

Edit: Maybe leaving off FIVR was a mistake?

In stress test mode it is a power virus for the FPUs.

Stress-test mode is not the same as the usual DC app operation.

Using "Auto" or "Normal" settings for Vcore on my MB @ 4.2ghz, the default voltage is 1.296v-1.324v. However, I have successful tested my system (Prime95) down to 1.200v at the same speed using manual settings. That's a big difference not only in voltage, but in heat (cuts down my max temps by almost 10C). So I settled at 1.224v just because I do not like using the lowest stable setting.

I am not sure why the MB manufactures try and pump so much voltage through these new CPUs. I know that I will never use the default or auto settings again.

But does yours get locked at the voltage you set or will it still downvolt when idle? That has been my issue before.

Microcenter has the i7 6700k listed.(my area sold out) Check your local area for stock.

Hope its a positive sign to finally see the listing at least. Out of stock at the store nearest to me (PA - Philly).

Just cancelled my order with tigerdirect. They were showing in stock on Friday so I placed an order with one day shipping to be delivered on Tuesday. And guess what, it didn't even ship until today morning and they have no idea when it will ship.

Here's the first Skylake-Y (2nd generation Core M) design wins, already on pre-order. The popular ASUS UX305 will be updated with the new processors soon:

ASUS Zenbook UX305CA with Intel Core M (Skylake-Y) from 799 €

...At the moment, the two SKU preorder in Europe (mainly in Belgium and the Netherlands) are those with code-UX305CA FB073T and UX305CA-FC042T. The first includes a 13.3-inch touch display IPS qHD + (3200 x 1800 pixels), Intel Core M-6Y54, 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSD M.2 expandable with a micro SD card slot. The second has an IPS display 13.3-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels), an Intel Core M-6Y30, 4GB of RAM and 128GB of SSD storage.

In terms of connectivity, for both versions, there are 3 USB 3.0 SuperSpeed ports (one of them also supports ASUS + Charger for fast charging of mobile devices), HDMI, Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi 802.11ac. Let's not forget the ASUS SonicMaster audio technology integrated Bang & Olufsen ICEpower. On board there is Windows 10, of course. The chassis has a color "gray", but it will probably be declined even in the variant "white" and "aurora gold".

The hardware configuration of the Ultrabook does not change much, even if we wait to see him live to be able to appreciate differences aesthetic and constructive. The good news, besides the adoption of the new Intel Skylake-Y, is the price: ASUS Zenbook UX305CA (Full HD) costs 799 Euros, in line with the ASUS version UX305FA with Broadwell that soon will replace, while ASUS ZenBook UX305CA (QHD +) touches the 999 euro.

HP Spectre 12 X2 and Intel Core M Skylake-Y

NotebookItalia @ Translator said:
...At the bottom we see a pogo pin connector for the keyboard dock and two holes for alignment pins because HP Spectre 12 X2 is a type of laptop 2in1 with detachable keyboard dock. These are the only information we can get from the FCC but luckily the shop online Australians have already started to put in the first list of configurations HP Spectre X2, offering us some more details.

Three by the time the Australian SKU HP Spectre 12 X2, in addition to that certified by the FCC:

HP Spectre X2 12-a002TU with Intel Core M 6Y54 Skylake Y, DDR3L 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, display 12.5 "WUXGA price 1934AUD;
HP Spectre X2 12-a003TU with Intel Core M 6Y75 Skylake Y, DDR3L 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, display 12.5 "WUXGA price 2299AUD;
HP Spectre X2 12-a005TU with Intel Core M 6Y30 Skylake Y, DDR3L 4GB of RAM, 128GB SSD, display 12.5 "WUXGA price 2016AUD.

The most interesting addition to the new Core Skylake M-Y, is given by the size of the screen, which drops to 12.5 "compared to 13" of Spectre previous X2 . We do not have instead of live images or rendering of the new HP Spectre 12 X2, but we know it has a silver frame slim and compact and weighs 1.2Kg. For photos and videos live with this and other Intel laptop Skylake give you an appointment at IFA 2015 Berlin.

HP also will integrate the new Core M (Skylake-Y) in Pavillon X360

HP also is preparing to upgrade many of its terminals with the Intel Core sixth generation, the American home could also be one of the first to integrate the Core M 6Y30 (Skylake) and in view of the expected official debut at IFA 2015 . The choice Pavillon should rest with the X360, the convertible HP could in fact reach the market with four new new configurations:

HP Pavilion X360 11-K133 with the Intel Pentium N3700 Braswell, 4GB DDR3L, WiFi 802.11ac;
HP Pavilion X360 11-K130 with Intel Celeron N3050 Braswell, 4GB DDR3L, WiFi 802.11ac;
HP Pavilion 11-K135 X360 with Intel Core 6Y30 Skylake M-Y, DDR3L 4GB, 128GB SSD, WiFi 802.11ac;

If you use it for that sure but if you run small fft with the intention of loading up the CPU to the max then it does stress the newer chips beyond safe levels if you ask me. If you run prime95 as a DC app the stress won't be that high.

Personally for stability testing I do not use prime95 anymore. I use Intel extreme tuning utility and Asus realbench. The Intel utility loads it up to heavy workloads beyond real world usage and includes a memory testing tool. Realbench runs handbrake and does photo manipulation to simulate a real world work load.

Ok then, which version of the stress test corresponds to the DC application. Is it small fft, in-place large fft, or blend?

The real world load would most likely be a variety of tasks, not just ones that would all fit in the cache.

Even so it has been agreed even for haswell that modern AVX and FMA load are bad for the cpu WHEN OVERCLOCKED. These loads require increased voltage which might be ok at stock but are really punishing when overvolted. Especially with auto volts.

Just set "Adaptive" voltage in the ASUS BIOS to a minus value as appropriate, results in a undervolt while allowing the CPU to down clock and down volt automatically at low loads.

Works fine on my 6700k/maximus viii hero.
