Precision line is already known.

Sorry, I should have said released. How old is that slide? September has come and gone, and when I spoke with a sales rep today he still had no idea when they'd be releasing update laptops.

I read the 27th (was earlier but changed) on notebookreviews, though that was for the UK. It shouldn't be that far from release date.

These numbers are a little too close for my liking, we are yet to see the Skylake iris Pro in action on a Surface 4.

BTW, why the I5-6300U performs worse on the Surface book?!

It may have something to do if they detach it from the keyboard I guess. Or their BIOS is simply set on lower IGP clocks due to having a dGPU. That's why its so hard to compare mobile products.

A good Z170 MB, the i7-6700k, 16 GB ram, and an nVidia 980/980Ti would be approximately what % faster in FPS gaming? (with moderate OC) than my current rig listed below?

Sorry for the noob question but I'm looking at possibly moving to Skylake. Is the only difference between i5-6600k and i5-6600 the ability to overclock? Performance is the exact same at stock speeds, yes? I believe the answer is yes but wanted to verify. I have no interest in overclocking so might as well save some cash.

How much ram can the HD530 share? Intel says there is a 1.7GB allowance for something that isn't clear what exactly.

All major motherboard makers list 512mb as the max for the igpu, and Hwinfo in win7 reports 1GB.

How much Vram can the gpu share when needed?

I am not a computer person. I am thinking of getting a new dell XPS 15 with the Skylake i7-6700HQ Quad Core chip. Then I read that in a few months, there will be new Skylake chips with Iris graphics included? is it worth waiting for the new chips?

I dont game but I am interested in some programs that use a lot of graphics. Is the Iris chip a big difference and worth waiting for and will it be much more expensive?

thanks for any thoughts.

If you need the added graphical performance, choose an XPS 15 model with a standalone graphics processor.

Which?

It will beyond a shadow of a doubt be more expensive. If you're looking for the best performance, while using the laptop unplugged, it is your best option. If you're looking for the best performance, while sitting at a desk using AC power, then it is far from the best option. A laptop with a cheap GTX 960m dGPU will destroy the Iris/Iris Pro, in graphics power.

As others have said, just get the XPS 15 with the GTX 960M. It is much more powerful than the Iris anyway.

I have ordered the new XPS 15 with the i7 6700HQ, 16GB DDR4, 512GB PCIE NVMe SSD, 4k display and GTX 960M. That GPU will handle games just fine at 1080p with high/max settings and will handle just about all other uses just fine at 4k.

it does no matter to what you set it on bios, you can set it to 32mb, HD4600 where able to get up to 4GB vram.

Where did you see this ??

On one of our pcs the other day, we installed GTA V on it, it had a I5-4460, and the GTAV where able to see 4GB vram, on the bios was set as 32mb, it always worked like that on intel IGPs, althought i think its limited to 1GB on Win7.

Limit for Haswell was ~1.7 GB. As far as I know there is no limit since Gen8.

I think there is some confusion about dedicated memory and dynamic memory usage here. Dedicated memory (set in bios) is irrelevant for 99.9% of applications. Dynamic memory is what matters.

The 1.7GB limit was WIn7 and/or for 32bit systems i think.

Are there any reviews of Skylake Y out yet?

Seems like several OEMs such as Lenovo have transitioned from using Broadwell Y in their previous models, to Skylake U instead in their latest models. Is that a sign that the Y series does not perform as well as expected so it's better to get an U series Skylake based laptop?

Y models is mainly for tablets. U models fit perfectly into 2in1. And 2in1 is the current trendy part.

There are also Y model laptops. Specially with the benefit of being fanless, which I like. However I don't like it to the point of the performance being too severely impacted. So I'd like to see some reviews of Skylake Y. But it's a worrying sign that some OEM models like Lenovo Yoga have moved from Y to U for Skylake.
