I still didn't pull the trigger. Its all still sitting in my cart but for some reason I just haven't been able to bring myself to complete the transaction. I dont wanna buy into a dead end platform even though it just came out.$350.00 bucks is a ton of money to me right now just to blow on a cpu, mobo, and ram just to have to buy another socket mobo 6 months later for Kabylake support.
It's not a dead platform, Z170 will support Kaby Lake.
But I still don't know why upgradeability to Kaby Lake is a big deal. Kaby Lake is mainly an iGPU/media upgrade, some very minor CPU architectural improvements (think of the CPU as a newer revision of the Skylake core), and a tweak of the 14nm process. It's not going to be worth your time to buy a Z170 board & a cheap Skylake only to sell the Skylake CPU in favor of a Kaby Lake CPU.
