There is an error in the Skylake diagram here. Skylake is actually 4-wide, but with tricks in the front end to allow it to deliver a peak decode rate of 5 uOps/cycle in the legacy decode pipeline (and 6 uOps from the op cache).

Some bits about Optane:

Here’s what Intel’s Optane will look like

You know Optane offers a thousand times the switching speed of an SSD. You know it’ll work with Intel’s newly announced Z270 chipset and Kaby Lake CPUs. And now you know what it’ll look like.

A day before CES officially kicks off, Intel shared a couple of pics of its highly anticipated Optane non-volatile memory drives.

Intel

Pricing, availability, and even capacity weren’t released with the photos, but the initial drives are expected to be 16GB and 32GB in size. They’ll be used with Intel’s Rapid Storage Technology to cache hard drive performance. SSDs are already being used to cache hard drives with RST, but the question is how much of a difference it’ll make using Optane drives instead of today’s SSDs. [...]

Im sorry but no, part of my job is creating PC configurations, 2 months ago for the budget gaming build i tried: Pentium G4400, Athlon 5150, A8-7600, I3-6100. and a RX460 2GB.
A8-7600 and I3-6100 was way better than the other two, ended up with the I3-6100, performance was better than A8-7600, and you need an A88 to have front USB3 on FM2, what is ridiculus.
now im gona use a G4560.

And yes, 2C+HT its the minimum ti pair it with a RX460 or GTX1050 class gpu.

When the Zens for mainstream comes out, and we can see the performance and prices we can talk, thats gona take a while since non-APU Zen are not mainstream, until them, this is what we have.

Go read what i wrote again i exactly wrote that a G4560 would walk over everything amd had. The same as you wrote.

I just dont think its fit for minimum gaming with a dgpu.

Minimum means minimum means what the consoles are able to do and that's haswell celeron levels, barely holding 30FPS and dropping beneath that on a regular basis..
Anything above that is not minimum for gaming and 2cores@3,5Ghz +HT will be more than enough for max gaming except for very rare cases of devs going mental during coding/porting...
watch dogs 1 had the same ridiculous requirements as wd2 has but nothing has changed in general for gaming since then.
Ashes runs fine on i3 levels even if you can get more FPS with more cores
-WHEN RUNNING THE BENCH--
Every Dx12 game released to date has lowered CPU usage for the same FPS (when playing because that's what you're supposed to do with Dx12) so if anything completely clean Dx12 engines will need less CPU power then to days games and not more.

This pentium will be able to serve as a gaming chip for quite a few years, even if badly done ports won't run very well they will run well enough meaning above 30fps all the times, more like 40-50 even in heavy action.

No Skull Canyon replacement this round, but at least we get an Iris Plus 650 NUC. This one should perform significantly better than current Iris 540 based models, thanks to Kaby Lake's improvement under CPU + iGPU loads, new drivers and almost twice the TDP (15W vs 28W).

Curious about Coffee Lake-S socket and chipset compatibility here. I think it's most likely still LGA 1151. Then Ice Lake-S incorporates the FIVR once again later on (new socket required).

Kinda thinking about the same too, if Coffe Lake its 1151 and MB compatible, i may just pick up a Z270 board with a G4560 to reeplace my 2500K and later on going with a 6C Coffe Lake.

Well, you are wrong

I build pcs like that one almost every day, and i can tell you right now, that video is 100% accurate. Thats 2500K level gaming right there, and it looks like a very decent "minimum gaming with dgpu". Altrought i whould not use anything bigger than a RX470 on it.

Since Sandy Bridge, Socket H has changed on the Tock, now, Architecture step. So if Coffee Lake is based on Skylake, it will retain the socket.

However chipset support: some Sandy Bridge chipsets do not support Ivy Bridge, and all initial Haswell (8 series) chipsets do not support Broadwell.

IMO, Intel would be foolish to change socket for Coffee only to change it again for Ice if FIVR does indeed return.

I hope CFL will be drop in compatible with LGA 1151 boards.

See, I think the FIVR is coming back on Coffee Lake. That might be the one thing they do, beyond the extra cores.
