You might want to look into the Gigabyte AORUS Gaming Ultra if you want to stay within budget; it looks like a Gaming 7 with some of the frills (like Wi-Fi) stripped away.

The Gaming 7 uses a heatpipe and and second heatsink for VRM cooling.

From what I hear, this thing power usage when running AVX at 4.5GHz is going to the stratosphere.
There are concerns about current motherboard VRM implementations for those loads.

Anybody running a 7980XE overclocked should have a top notch PSU + ASUS Rampage VI Apex or similar board. Pairing a $2000 CPU with a cheap board is not advisable

Im talking about all current motherboards, not just the entry models. There are concerns that even the top models will have a problem with the VRMs at those loads.
But remember im only talking about AVX, in other loads they should be ok.

I am seriously considering the 18C Xeon as I need ECC and 256GB memory.

This machine can heat up the water for my house. Seriously thinking about it. Then the heat and power consumption doesn't concern me.

I wonder what is the computing power with Small FFT and avx512.

Huh, doesnt the 7900x run at 1,1V stock and need north of 1,15V for 4,5GHz OC? Either the chip on those pics is sort of "golden" (its fully functional 18C after all) or these HCC chips have better properties overall than LCCs?

There are like no consumer apps using AVX 512, which is the main culprit, so why should it even matter. Out of blue the stability and power consumption in AVX-512 Prime95 or that y-cruncher is the holy grail, when just half year before nobody even cared about them.

It does work, you just need to accept lower clocks, when running apps using it - as it is to my knowledge, only stress tests/power viruses, hence my post.

How do you figure? AVX-512 has been planned for these chips for years.

I can tell you that 8 cores @ 3.6ghz pull 212W running AVX512. Running AVX2 (Small FFT) at the same speed only pulls 168W.
