Lol, huh! No very practical but it would be awesome to play with

It would but to get the most out of this toy...$2K for the CPU, another $430 for a Rampage VI Apex, and of course a $400 custom loop would be required to cool it properly, and then to keep the beast fed properly, I would need some high quality DDR4-4000.

On top of that, I would need to migrate my rig into a full tower ATX, which, in addition to costing even more $, would be such a PITA to move around.

Total cost of ownership for this CPU is stratospheric, but I envy the people who will get to put this sucker into their rigs.

No doubt.. Holy sh*t!

I woulda never believed intel would sell that kind of power for $2k..

If I was still a developer working on 10+ million line code bases - I would give my left nut for one of these
Doing full builds would be a cake walk! Of course, that be stock.

Anyway, yeah, custom water if you want to really push this thing - plus a full cover block for the CPU and MOSFETS.
Would be a shame not to have SLIed GTX 1080 TIs, so massive H20 rads as well
I think my wallet just died thinking about this

Is there any date more specific than a Q3 launch for the 8700K?

I'm getting antsy trying to limp along on my FX8350.

the 'half throughput' is that it combines the two 256-bit units (eg AVX2) to do the AVX-512. Fully enabled also has the second straight 512-bit unit.

Even on i7-7820X? Doesn't it only have half-throughput AVX-512?
Nominally the FMAs on ports 0 and 1 are 256-bit, so in order to drive towards the AVX-512-F these two ports are fused together, similar to how AVX-512-F is implemented in Knights Landing. The six-core and eight-core Skylake-X parts support one fused FMA for AVX-512-F, although the 10-core will support dual 512-bit AVX-512-F ports, which seems to be located on port 5. This means that the 10-core i9-7900X can support 64 SP or 32 DP calculations per cycle, whereas the 8-core/6-core parts can support 32 SP or 16 DP per cycle.

The scaling on that 4447cb looks legit and the scaling is really impressive.

Comparing to my 7820x score.

8 cores x 5.0GHz = 40 2249cb/40 = 56.2cb per core per 1GHz
18 cores x 4.5GHz = 81 4447cb/81 = 54.9cb per core per 1GHz

I am almost certain that this information ended up testing untrue.

Your link indicates that it was true:
Looks like the retail 7800X does in fact have full-throughput:

http://www.pcgameshardware.de/Skylake-X-Codename-266252/News/Core-i7-7800X-AVX512-Durchsatz-1232713/

The guys who run that site sent me an email this morning. And using the same FLOPs benchmark, were able to show full-throughput on the 7800X.

Alright... Now I'm interested in the story behind this mess.

I guess I don't completely understand. Is the 7800x and 7820x AVX512 performance actually gimped compared to the 7900x? The throughput benchmarks in that post I linked seem to show the same throughput per core between the 7800x and 7900x.

No, it's not gimped. They all have full throughput.

It is confusing though because ES 78XX chips apparently lacked full throughput and people just assumed that would be the case with the retail chips.

I also misunderstood your earlier post.

If memory serves the 7900x can do the fused 256x256 as well as having a dedicated 512bit port.
