It's AMD's onchip memory controller. It won't get muck better for intel until they change the structure of the chip itself.

I heard a rumor that Intel was going to join the Hypertransport forum. Maybe they realize their mistake.

Probably will just reverse engineer HT just like *cough* 64-bit *cough*.

Reverse engineer something from their friends at AMD? Why would they need to reverse engineer anything? The 2 companies have many years left on their agreement. They have signed 4 patent cross license agreements since 1976. The last one was a 10 year deal in 2001.

True, they continue to give each other secrets and they reverse engineer each others work at times so it works both ways. But it seems Intel is doing it more as of late as AMD did so years back. I hope AMD can keep the pressure on and the table turned in their favor.

Check out the new Asus Intel SLI mobo released a few days ago. Notice how they have used AMD SLI version customers to revise the mobo. No whiney chipset fan. SLI led indicatore light...I'm sure they managed to make things very nice for their cash-cow Intel customers AFTER using us as lab-rats with their rush to market AMD SLI set-up.

Sounding a bit pissed??? You bet i am!!!

I'm sure they rushed to market equally fast with the Intel setup. It's just the nature of the business. As soon as nVidia had the chips ready, the motherboard makers had to rush them out to try and stay ahead of the competition. "No whiney chipset Fan" sounds like a good thing. Maybe they're listening to customer complaints and trying to improve their products as they go along. Just be happy knowing that the AMD SLI version will whip the Intel version for gaming.

remember the Intel SLI mobo also has a Northbridge and a Southbridge instead of just a single "bridge" thus dividing up the workload with a result of a much less aggressive cooling solution. However, because of the seperation of the North and south, it would require a lot of bandwidth between the 2 channels to keep up with the single chip solution. Keep in mind that the memory controller is integrated on the Northbridge. There was this whole section regarding how Nvidia handled the communications between the North and South Bridge, as well as the Memory controller to keep up with the AMD brethren.
