According to Fudzilla
I highly doubt its gonna work because its named Xeon. There probably is enough compatibility issues to essentially conclude it doesn't work even if its electrically and physically LGA775.
You are probably thinking they are referring to a LGA771 chip and trying to put it into an LGA775 socket.
Xeon models that start with X
3### or E
3### are LGA775 chips. Xeon's that start with X
5### or E
5###are the LGA771 chips.

On LGA771 sockets you can already get 3.4GHz Harpertowns. But the max currently available for LGA775 harpertown xeons is the 3GHz X3370.
I doubt I am telling you anything new, just fleshing out the details for any would-be lurkers in the audience. Pretty sure you were thinking the discussion was about an LGA771 xeon up there.
